Wichita, Kansas - Ardis H. Ahre, age 98, of Wichita, KS died on January 31, 2023 with her family at her side. She was born on April 6th, 1924 in Astoria, SD, the youngest child of Henry O. and Anna J. Halverson. She graduated from Astoria High School in 1942. She attended Augustana College, graduating in May, 1944 with an Elementary School teaching certificate. She married Allen Ahre, her Astoria classmate, on Thanksgiving day, 1944. Three weeks later, Allen left to go to Italy during WWII. When the war ended, they moved to Lincoln, NB so that Allen could attend the University of Nebraska. Daughter Susan was born there. They later moved to Wichita where Steven and David were born. Ardis is remembered by friends and relatives as a gentle, kind and loving person who was devoted to her family. She was happily married to Allen for nearly 69 years. She was a beloved daughter, sibling, wife and mother. She had a strong faith in God. She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church for 70 years. Ardis is preceded in death by her husband, Allen G. Ahre, son Steven D. Ahre, and siblings: Lillian (Roy) Johnson, Clifford (Marge) Halverson, Gilmore (Anne) Halverson and Melvern Halverson. She is survived by daughter Susan (Roger) Halleckson, son David A. Ahre, 5 nieces and 3 nephews. Services will be held at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church on March 4 at 11:00 AM.
