Lawrence, Kansas - Daphne Johnston, 73, died Monday, November 4, 2024 peacefully in her sleep attended by her husband, son & siblings.
Born to Max & Kathryn Johnston in Wichita, KS on January 24,1951, Daphne attended high school at Mt. Carmel Academy, Wichita, KS and went on to receive a bachelor's degree from WSU before completing Master's Degrees at Columbia University, MO and the University of KS.
Daphne's professional careers include Social Case Worker in Lawrence KS, Assoc. Dean of Graduate Studies and then the Director of International Admissions at The University of KS.
Daphne's work in International Admissions fueled her interest in international travel, culture, politics & religion. She traveled extensively both for work and also for pleasure with her husband professor Pok Chi Lau and their son, Tyler Lau.
A committed volunteer to the community, Daphne was quite active politically, socially & physically.
Survivors: husband - Pok Chi Lau of Lawrence, KS; son - Tyler Lau of Lawrence, KS; sister - Valerie Foster of Tacoma, WA; brothers - Jeff Johnston of Wichita, KS & Vincent Johnston of Wichita, KS.
A Celebration of Daphne's life will be held on 5/24/25, the 30th anniversary of her marriage to Pok Chi Lau.
Memorials have been established with:

Doctors Without Borders, NY, NY.
The Nature Conservancy, Arlington, VA.
The Lawrence Humane Society, Inc., Lawrence, KS.

My condolences to Daphne's family. Our families grew up in the Blessed Sacrament Parish. I remember Daphne as a Girl Scout camp counselor at Camp Seikooc when I was in grade school. May she rest in peace.
