Don L. Schrader

HALSTEAD - Schrader, Don L., 58, died May 11, 2012 at his home in Halstead. He was born Nov. 23, 1953 in Sterling, the son of Elwyn and Ollie Siegrist Schrader. He was a graduate of Sterling High School. He attended nursing school at St. Joseph Hospital and graduated from Newman University with his BSN. He was a registered nurse for 39 years, having the title of charge nurse, at Via Christi Hospital, Wichita. He married Cheryl Ann Orem on Aug. 26, 1972 in Hutchinson. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Aaron Schrader and wife Laressa, Hesston and Andrew Schrader and wife Susan, Hutchinson; a daughter, Angela Schrader, Haysville; a brother, Buford Porter, Hutchinson; two sisters, Shirley Bertalot, Arizona and Patricia Crow, Hutchinson; and four grandchildren, Jessica and Jacob Robbins and Melina and Cooper Schrader. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held from 1-9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory, Hutchinson. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory, Hutchinson, with Chaplain Phil Lamar presiding. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. Memorial contributions may be made to Victory in the Valley, in care of the funeral home.
