Wichita, Kansas - Rev. Duane K. Harms, 93, entered his heavenly home on January 2, 2025.

He was born on December 28, 1931, in Newton, Kansas, to Theodore and Mildred (Molzen) Harms. Rev. Harms graduated from Wellington High School, Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas, and Drew University in Madison, New Jersey. He faithfully served as a Methodist minister for over 40 years in many Kansas communities.

On June 14, 1953, he married Shirley Bailey, and they later divorced. On December 27, 1980, he married Avenell Elliott, who preceded him in death on May 26, 1997.

Rev. Harms is survived by his son, David (Gail) Harms of Brenham, Texas; his daughter, Elizabeth (Derek) Slack of Larned, Kansas; and two step-sons, Kent (Pam) Elliott of Kansas City, Kansas, and Roger (Pat) Elliott of Stilwell, Kansas. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren-Molly, Carrie, Kerby, Max, Angeline, Mary, Kelsey, Thomas, Rodette, Kara, and Luke-along with 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-son, Stuart Elliott; and two great-grandsons, Joel and Henry Armijo.

Rev. Harms loved immersing himself in the communities he served. He enjoyed playing golf, music, card games, and planning Keenage Karavan trips. In later years, he found joy in camping with friends at various lakes. Annual family trips to the cabin near La Veta, Colorado, were cherished highlights of his year.

He was actively involved in the Masons, Lions Club, and Rotary and was known for his welcoming spirit and acceptance of all people.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at University United Methodist Church, 2220 N. Yale Ave., Wichita, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with University United Methodist Church and United Methodist Open Door.
