Maize, Kansas - Gary Dale Bender, born Oct. 1, 1947 in Russell KS, passed away on December 18, 2020.
Gary leaves his beloved wife of 31 years, Kathy; and their adult children, Jarrod (Tammy) Severeide, Heidi (Cory) Martin, Tobie (Brandon) Andrews, Jeremy (Misha) Bender; 9 grandchildren, Brady, Ryan, Bailey, Parker, Finley, Presley, Evan, Charlee, and Beck; sister, Judy McGreevy; and nephew, Coy McGreevy to mourn his loss.
Memorial Service will be at 2:00 pm Friday, January 8, 2021, at Downing and Lahey West Mortuary. Service will be Live Streamed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with Alzheimer's Association of Wichita (www.alz.org/cwkansas), Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (www.jdrf.org), and Pathway Church (www.pathwaychurch.com).

It's hard to lose a cousin! Great service today for Gary, as we viewed it on-line. We have you in our thoughts and prayers in the days ahead. We have always felt that Gary and Kathy invested in their children throughout their growing up years, and it shows today that their efforts have shined through each of them. Love and hugs. My friendship with Gary (& Kathy) goes back to our days working at Kansas State Bank & Trust, and never ended. Gary's family became my family, and his home (wherever he and Kathy lived) was opened for me to drop in for a visit and have (many) a meal. I will never forget Gary's laugh, and will always remember his patience -- especially during a VERY delayed flight from Phoenix AZ, and serving as driver & tour guide while visiting the Biltmore Estates in Asheville, NC. I'm so thankful that GOD put Gary in my life, and I pray that I'll see him again at our eternal destination.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. I’ll always remember our younger years growing up on our parents farms and the fun we had playing outside. Some day we will meet again.
