This breaks my heart. On a whim I thought, I wonder what Mr. Clamons is up to now? I never, ever, EVER thought he would go so soon.
Even though I only had him for a year as my 10th grade English teacher at JCHS, he was truly one of my favorites. His quick wit, deadpan delivery, and quirkiness will never be forgotten.
I'm so sad that he is no longer here in body but certain he is around in spirit. Rest easy, Mr. Clamons!

I have been a Special Ed para @ EMS FOR 3 years now. I didn't know Mr. Clamons as well as many of you, however my admiration for the work he did with children grew immensely each day. I would observe students ("card in hand") make the trip to have a dreaded conversation with Mr. Clamons. I would observe these kiddos make their way through the empty halls slowly but surely(like a turtle). While approaching THE OFFICE they would become ridgid & shell up (again like a turtle)! I have also been fortunate enough to observe those same kiddos exit the office with encouragement to do better. Mr. Clam ones once again used his sternness, wisdom, humor, wit along with encouraging words & positive food for thought to help them turn the day around. Mr. Clamon made a difference in another young person's life!!! Through the all the messages here @ Legacy.com I now know this man better. I learned that one of his sobriquet was "Turtle" that's so ironic to me yet so inspiring to know this man was always genuine. I discovered the "GREATNESS" OF MR. CLAMONS through all the treasures (being your memories) that I have read here. God bless you all.

I have been a Special Ed para @ EMS for just 3 years now, I didn't know Mr. Clemons as well as many of you. However, I admired him more & more each day that passed. My admiration was sparked every time I observed students "card in hand" make their way through the empty halls to have a dreaded visit with Mr. Clamons. I viewed these kiddos make their way to his office slowly but surely (like turtles). As they approached the office they gradually became rigid & shelled up (again like a turtle)! I have also been FORTUNATE enough to observe those students exit the office, where Mr. Clamons, using his wisdom, sternness, humor & wit along with encouragement & positive words of discipline as well as food for thought to help turn their day around. GREG CLAMONS MADE A DIFFERENCE IN ANOTHER YOUNG PERSON'S LIFE!
Through al the messages that I've read here on Legacy I now know this man better! I learned through Legacy.com that one of Mr. Clamons sobriquets was "Turtle" this is so ironic to me yet inspiring to know this man was always the "GENUINE" man I observed. I learned through all these TREASURES (being your messages) "THE GREATNESS" of MR. CLAMONS! God bless you all!

We were heartbroken to learn of Greg's death. His connection to our family goes way back to Stanley Presbyterian Church in Overland Park where we first met his family. He babysat for our 2 oldest children, Sharon and Brian. They remember him as being a lot of fun. In a few weeks, Sharon and her family will be moving into a house on the same street the Clammons used to live on. Certainly Greg will be thought of often. You are in our prayers.

Mr. Clamons was an excellent educator and person. He had an amazing ability to develop rapport with all of his students. I used to love talking to him about sports, especially KSU football. He inspired creativity and made school fun. He was a great man and someone I will always admire.

Mr. Clamons was the best teacher I ever had. He thought me that it was ok to be different, that intelligence was more than what you read in a book and how to be a better person. He had such a lasting impact on my life. I talk about him to this day when I talk about my formative years. We ere so lucky to have had him in our lives. So very sorry for your loss.

No words are adequate to express the sadness I feel for Greg's friends and family after hearing this shocking news.
I met Greg 20 years ago in Junction City, when I witnessed first-hand his passion for life (and for soccer). He brought great energy to our circle of friends, and among my fond memories are the weekend trips to Kansas City which included time spent hanging out at his parents' house and driving around to the next adventure in the family van.
My family and I send our heartfelt prayers and condolences to Greg's family and all those whose lives he touched.

Turtle, thank you so much for all of the memories from BVHS. I'll never forget the great times we had together -- like when we were dissecting cats in Mr. Hare's class and you named ours "Rigger Morris," and the proceeded to give it a "Boz" haircut. You always made everything so much fun. I'll never forget your kindness and humor. You made this world a better place for everyone who knew you, and you will truly be missed. God bless you and your wonderful family.

When my daughter was diagnosed in 7th grade with Type I Diabetes, she developed a lasting bond with Mr. Clamons. He allowed her to come and go into his office, sit in his chair and help herself to any snacks in his drawer. He also allowed her to sit with him in the pressbox while he announced sports. Always present, and always motivating - everyone needs a "Mr. Clamons" in their life.

Greg, we had so much fun on the church trips and in church. You called my Dad to see if you could stop by my wedding to say congrats. We were all thrilled and you danced with me. Knowing that my brother Greg could not be there to dance with me, you did. You took a serious and sad moment and made me laugh. Your heart was....I hate saying that word was, so full of humor, kindness, and energy that is unexplainable. You drove to the reunion this past summer and you hadn't changed at all. You spoke of your children, beautiful wife and your job that wasn't a job at all for you. Cause you made everything fun. In high school the crowd would chant, " Turtle, Turtle..." and you would block the goal. Bye for Turtle. #GregClamonsTurtlewillbemissedBV89

My heartfelt condolences to the Clamons family. I'm a Para at EMS and had only known Greg for 5 1/2 years... I can honestly say I felt like I've known him for decades. Greg Clamons, was a wonderful person that impacted 3 of my 4 children's life's which attended EMS; two of which had intellectual disabilities.
Greg being an avid Chief's fan and my son being an avid Bronco fan; became quite a rivalry during football season; not to mention when the Chiefs and Broncos played each other. If my son was not getting Greg going; Greg was getting my son going. In Fact a couple of times my son would sneak into Greg's office and leave Bronco team pictures on his wall. At first Greg, was not happy; until he found out it was my son and the staff let him into office while Mr. Longabaugh, kept Greg busy.
Greg would often buy them books from the fair, and occasionally an ice cream; as a reward for their help around the school. My son and daughter grew close to Greg during their time at EMS. He gave my kids more than a principle but a friend. He will be missed and I know my children will remember him fondly.
Our deepest sympathies during this time and our prayers.

I met Greg when he was a young boy, one of the guys that my brother, Scott, counted in his circle of friends. Greg's personality and smile were boundless. I recently saw him again at his 25 year reunion. The young boy I knew was there smiling, all grown up. His stories and impersonations were free flowing, sharing his energy with everyone. Greg possessed a unique combination of qualities that made him a rare and unforgettable person. He was a wonderful friend to my brother Scott and sister Erin. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family as you hold Greg forever in your hearts.

I was so sad to hear of Greg's passing. He was such a great person. While my son was at EMS, I got to know Greg well; which meant he would have to call me about something my son had done. I usually ended up in tears, but Greg always made me feel better about the situation and assured me it would all be fine. Every time we saw each other since, we would joke that we sure missed talking to each other. He was such a kind, funny man. My son looked up to him and respected him so much. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I never knew a larger life force than Greg. From elementary school days to high school, Greg warmed a room with his loving heart and epic impersonations. Greg drove all the way to OP to say hello during our recent 25 year reunion and then, proudly, headed back to be able to coach his kids the next day. Greg was a loyal friend, loving father and husband and leaves, with all of us, the inspiration to touch lives like he did- in life, in the classroom and in the world of athletics. Turtle- it's not goodbye...it's until we meet again. Clamons family- know the Kelly family on Riggs Road is praying for each of you and holds you and Greg in our hearts always.
