Wichita, Kansas - Harold W. Hellman, age 93, of Wichita passed away August 1, 2022. He was born January 21, 1929, on a farm outside Nashville, Kansas to Otto and Emma (Flentje) Hellman. Harold attended Nashville and Social Plains schools during his elementary years and graduated from Isabel High in 1946. Following graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force from 1948-1952. During the Korean War, his duties at the Pentagon included working with the first ENIAC computer systems. On September 7, 1955, he married Catherine Notter of Pratt, Kansas. He attended the University of Wichita on the GI Bill and in 1959, was the first in the Hellman family to graduate with a college degree. After graduation, he was employed as a machinist accountant for Watkins, Inc., followed by Sperry Flight Systems (acquired by Honeywell). He retired from Sperry/Honeywell in 1992 after 32 years. Harold was an Honor Flight recipient to Washington, DC in 2018. His favorite hobbies included hunting, fishing and cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals.
He was blessed with three children, Tim (Brenda) Hellman, David Hellman, and Amy Jo (Richard) Martin, all of Wichita; grandchildren Heather Roy, Chris (Kate) Hellman, McKenna Martin and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by Catherine, his wife and Elizabeth Roy, a great grandchild.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at 10:30 AM at Ascension Lutheran Church, 842 N. Tyler Rd, Wichita KS. Burial to follow at St. John's Cemetery, Nashville, KS. A memorial has been established with The Kansas Honor Flight, P.O. Box 2371, Hutchinson, KS 67504.
