Hugo Weber Obituary

Weber, Hugo P., Jr. 75, of Peoria, IL, passed Tuesday, December 1, 2015, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease and pancreatic cancer. Hugo was born on July 26, 1940, to the union of Hugo (Web) Weber, Sr. and Katherine (Smith) Weber in Denver, CO. Hugo graduated Denver South High School, earned a B.S. at Regis College in 1962 and an M.D. at University of Colorado School of Medicine in 1966. He worked as a soda jerk, theater usher, and union carpenter to support his education. Hugo married Rosemary Anne Crouse, a registered nurse from Ashby, NE, on September 12, 1964. They had two boys, Paul (1966) and Joel (1971). Hugo served as Captain in the U.S. Army 1967-1968 as a surgeon for 5th Battalion, 60th Infantry, 9th Division and Chief of Professional Services, 17th Field Hospital at An Khe, Vietnam. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and other commendations. From 1968-1969, he was Special Asst. to the Chief of Training at Fort Sam Houston, TX. In 1971, after medical residency at Milwaukee County General Hospital, Hugo earned his certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1972 as a Diplomat in Specialty. Hugo moved to Wichita, KS in 1973, and co-founded Kansas Nephrology Physicians P.A. and served as clinical professor at Wichita State University and The University of Kansas from 1975-2006. Hugo retired in August 2006. Moving to Peoria, IL and joining St. Jude's Catholic Church provided the opportunity to continue his life's passion of teaching and learning and to continue building his extensive library. Hugo and Rosemary founded The Damien Foundation, a charitable trust honoring St. Damien of Molokai. Hugo leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Rosemary Weber, Peoria; brother, John Weber, Denver; sons, Paul and Diane (Landis) Weber, Chillicothe, Joel and Rosanne (Gnarra) Weber, Washington D.C.; grandchildren, Jack, Audrey, Elizabeth, Claire, and Theresa. Hugo also leaves many relatives and friends. A memorial mass for Hugo will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, at St. Jude Catholic Church in Peoria. Fr. Patrick Henehan will officiate the Mass. A visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service time. Memorials may be made in his honor to the St. Jude School. Rosemary, I am so saddened about your loss. So many people held Hugo in the highest regard and he will be missed. I loved knowing him as a doctor and a friend. I had heard he had Parkinson's but didn't know how to reach you. Steve was diagnosed with Parkinson's nine years ago. My condolences are late -- I just found out -- but they are certainly heartfelt.

I was a patient of Dr. Weber's in the 1980s, and he was such a kind, caring, compassionate doctor. I've never found another who was so reassuring and personable. I am very sorry to learn of his passing. Best wishes to his family.

What a great man and a great loss to all. My condolences to his family. This man will never be forgotten by me. He saw me after I ended up in MICU after the birth of my child. Such a kind hearted, wonderful physician. He did a kidney biopsy on me and I was so scared, but somehow he was able to calm me. Then he called me one day to give me lab results and left me a message at work. It was my birthday, and much to my surprise, he knew it and sang me happy birthday over the phone. I will never forget him. He is no doubt with many jewels in Heaven. Thank you for sharing him! God bless!

Dear Rosemary and family, I learned today of a man who took care of me as my doctor from 1975 till his retirement in 2006. I first saw him in 1975 as a new patient and at the time I didn't have a GP. I asked him if he would be and he said yes and the rest is history. What a kind man. I went to his retirement gathering at KNP and said my goodbyes and he said he was moving to Illinois and I would be in good hands here at KNP.. He'll be missed! Thank you my friend for being who you are.

I had the privilege to work with Dr. Weber. He took the time to teach me and had great patience when I was a young nurse. I considered him a mentor and someone I respected as I worked with him over the years in the MICU. He spoke so highly of his family. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Dr. Weber was a class act, he will be missed!

Dr. Weber was a well respected physician and pioneer of nephrology in Wichita, KS for many years. He took very good care of the people who became his patients. Even after his move,as a professional serving patients with end stage renal disease in the Wichita community, I continued to hear from patients who had been grateful for his care. He presented professionally and held to high standards of care. He used his talents well.

To God be the Glory!

Remembering Rosemary and those he loved.
