Ida Shaw Obituary

Shaw, Ida Marjorie "Joey" Anderson, 90, a most loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandma "Nana," and friend, passed away on July 15, 2014, in Wichita, Kansas. A native Canadian, Ida was born on September 12, 1923 in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. On February 1, 1947 Ida and Frank Shaw were married and remained so until his death in 2003. In 1968, Frank's career with the Coleman Company brought them to Wichita. In her lifetime, she would also call Plano, Texas home before eventually settling in Kansas again. As a vibrant young woman, Joey's passion for beauty and wellness led her to studying cosmetology. Joey would later use those skills as a Mary Kay representative- she brought out the best in everyone! She treated her neighbors as family and was always happy to make an acquaintance feel instantly at ease. She was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church since 1968, an avid reader, expert cook, charitable friend, fashionista, and animal lover. Joey was preceded in death by her parents, Marjorie and George Anderson; her husband, Frank Shaw; her brother, Donald Anderson; and her sister, Joanne Brear. She is survived by her sister, Ardith Manielly; her son, Dr. Brian (Margaret) Shaw; daughter, Gail (Mark) Jabara; grandchildren, Stephen (Lisa) Shaw, Marnie Shaw, Lauren (Timothy) Irwin, and Kelli Bartlett; her great-grandchildren, Nathan Shaw, Joella Irwin, and new baby Irwin due January; numerous nieces and nephews. She welcomed into her family step-grandchildren, Amy Jabara (Justin) Fernandez and Hugo Fernandez. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Cardiovascular Consultants of Kansas and the Kansas Heart Hospital; along with the numerous physicians and nurses at Via Christi St. Francis and, finally, Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice for her final hours. Friends can honor Joey's memory with contributions to American Heart Association, 8630 E. 32nd St. N., Wichita, KS 67226; Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS 67202; and the Kansas Humane Society, 3313 N. Hillside, Wichita, KS 67220. A service will be held at 10:00 A.M., St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Saturday, July 19, 2014.
