Iona Mann Obituary

FREDONIA - Mann, Iona Lorraine, 90, passed away Oct. 8, 2009, at Golden Keys Nursing Home in Neodesha, KS. Lorraine was born Jan. 19, 1919, in Quincy, KS, the daughter of Jesse Marion and Muriel Arlene (Close) Charboneau. She grew up in Quincy graduating from Quincy High School. After high school she attended Chanute Junior College and began teaching. She taught for several years before attending Emporia State University in Emporia, KS, and received her Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1966. After her graduation she continued teaching school and taught in Woodson County, Wilsn County and retired from the Andover School District in Andover, KS. Lorraine enjoyed her 30 plus years teaching and had many fond memories. She was a member of BPW in Fredonia and was a past president. She also was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary at Wilson County Hospital in Fredonia, KS, and the Study Club in Fredonia. Lorraine was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Toronto, KS, when it was still open. On Jan. 23, 1942, she was united in marriage to John Henry Mann in Buffalo, KS. They shared over 64 years of marriage before his death on Feb. 19, 2006. Lorraine and John had a loving and happy marriage. They particularly enjoyed their retirement and traveled extensively with their children or spent time visiting their children and grandchildren in Michigan, California and South Carolina. Lorraine also traveled to Europe with her daughter and her sister several times. She and John also enjoyed spending time with Lorraine's brothers and sisters on reunion trips visiting many parts of the United States. Lorraine is survived by two sons, John Craig Mann and his wife Tula of Costa Mesa, CA, David Conlee Mann and his wife Roxanne of Livonia, MI; one daughter, Julie Cheryl Siddens and her husband Larry of Bluffton, SC; four grandchildren, Stephanie Lloyd and her husband Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Lloyd of Omaha, NE, Sean Mann of Detroit, MI, Emily Mann of Indianapolis, IN, Ryan Siddens of Morristown, NJ; two great-grandchildren, Joshua Lloyd and Amanda Lloyd of Omaha, NE; two brothers, Orilis Charboneau and his wife Sue and John Charboneau and his wife Maria; two sisters, Avle Stuber and her husband Kenny and Avis Deck; two brothers-in-law, Albert (Speck) Mann and his wife Wanda and Max Eaton; one sister-in-law, Pat Charboneau; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers, Lloyd Charboneau, Lyneal Charboneau, Paul Charboneau; one sister, Bonnie Jean Eaton; one sister-in-law, Carrie Charboneau; and one brother-in-law, Harvey (Bud) Deck. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 12, 2009 at the Calvary Weslyen Church in Fredonia, KS, with interment to follow in Toronto Cemetery in Toronto, KS. Mrs. Mann will lie in state after 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, 2009 at the Campbell Funeral Home in Yates Center, KS. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Mann Family Scholarship Fund and sent in care of Mike Jeffers, First National Bank, P.O. Box 190, Fredonia, KS 66736.

Sorry about your loss. I know I am down the line related somehow as I recall my Mother, Lyla "Close" Cokeley, and grandmother, Clytie Close talk years ago and the name is somehow familiar. I know they would of liked it for me to send a quick note expressing our sympathy. God be with you.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. Your parents were wonderful people and both Bill and I enjoyed visiting with them when ever we saw them. Was always great to see her at church when she was able to attend. May God comfort you and the family at this time.
