Clevenger, John Charles 49, a devoted father, husband, son and brother, passed unto eternal rest on July 22, 2017. He was born April 30th, 1968 in Topeka, Kansas. He attended Princeton University where he was a proud member of the Cottage Club and played varsity football. He was a member of the 1989 Ivy League Championship team and graduated in 1990. After having begun a career in consulting and banking, he graduated from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern, where he gained life-long friends playing rugby. After moving to Wichita, John assumed the leadership role of Commerce Bank Wichita as President and CEO. John's involvement in the community and his church was remarkable. His service to the boards of Catholic Charities, YPO, Newman University, Via Christi, Wesley, and Kapaun Mt. Carmel Catholic High School, are only a few of the dozens of organizations John selflessly devoted his time and talent to over the course of his career. John's commitment to athletics inspired hundreds of kids over close to decade of coaching at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School as well as Wichita youth football. He was an avid sportsman, enjoying skiing, mountain hiking, golfing, and cycling. His passion to make Wichita a better community will be felt for generations to come. As vast as his influence was within the community, his legacy of devotion and love for his wife and best friend of 20 years, Kristen and their children, Mary Margaret (Maggie), Thomas, and Katherine (Katie) was John's most proud achievement. John was a natural leader, gifted team-mate, confident mentor, and faithful steward of his time, talent and treasure. His capacity to make everyone around him feel special was what endeared him to all. He was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by his family, friends and co-workers. In addition to John's wife and children, he is survived by his parents, Thomas and Linda Clevenger of Dallas, TX and his brother Christopher (Chris) and sister-in-law Amy and their children Samantha (Sam) and Charles (Charlie) of Denver, CO. Rosary will be at 7:00 pm on Thursday, July 27, 2017. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am, Friday, July 28, 2017 both at the Church of the Magdalen, 12626 E 21st St N, Wichita, KS 67206.
