Lester Depperschmidt Obituary

Lester "Les" E. Depperschmidt

February 13, 1947 - November 24, 2025

Derby, Kansas - Depperschmidt, Lester "Les" E., 78, passed away on November 24, 2025. He was born in Quinter, Kansas to Al and Tillie Depperschmidt on February 13, 1947, and raised in Park, Kansas. He was a humble man, but was extremely proud to be a loving husband, father, Papa, brother and friend to many.

Les' faith, family and friends, in that order, were the pillars of his life. Les will be remembered for his quick wit, welcoming smile, handshake, gentle heart and giving spirit. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, endless card games, numerous sports - most importantly his grandkids' sporting events.

Les served as an active member at St. Mary Catholic church and community.

On June 8, 1968, Les married Connie (Kinderknecht) in Collyer, Kansas. They were blessed with three children, Tina, Todd and Tracie.

Les started his career at Southwestern Bell, now known as AT&T, in 1968. During his 50 years with the company, he held various roles before his retirement in 2017.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Al & Tillie, siblings, Gerald (Marge) Depperschmidt, Cletus (Mary) Depperschmidt, Marvin Depperschmidt, Kathleen (Wayne) Woerpel, Marilyn (Duane) Heble and Linda Waddell, niece, Brenda Heble and nephew David Depperchmidt.

Les is survived by his wife of 57 years, Connie; children, Tina (Tom) Albers of Hays, Kansas, Todd (Theresa) Depperschmidt of Mansfield, Ohio, and Tracie (Brad) Shelton of Wichita, Kansas; grandchildren, Mackenzie (Kris) Neuhauser, Kord (Amber), Adyson, Brenlynn and Brogan Albers; Olivia, Jacob, Jack and Alex Depperschmidt; Lakin, Lexie and Luke Shelton. Great-grandchildren, Kolson, Blayke, Kambell and Paisyn; siblings, Ken (Diane) Depperschmidt; sibling-in-laws, Norma Depperschmidt and Pat Waddell.

Visitation will be held from 4-6:30 pm with Rosary at 6:30pm on Friday, November 28, 2025, both at St. Mary Catholic Church, 2300 E. Meadowlark Rd., Derby, Kansas 67037. Funeral Mass is Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 10:30 am at St. Mary Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Mary Catholic Church Building Fund, 2300 E. Meadowlark Rd., Derby, Kansas 67037 or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market St., Wichita, Kansas 67202.

I worked with Les on several projects when he was with SWB. He always a problem solver and honest employee to work with. His work ethic must have come from that upbringing in Western Kansas!! Great guy, few and far between these days. Condolences to the family.

When I heard this yesterday I was instantly sad. Les was one of my favorite people who crossed the Buster´s Sports bet threshold. I always enjoyed his visits. Was really happy when he came in my grill in Wichita. My thoughts are with all family. I am a better person for knowing him. Rest well my friend.

Les is one of my very favorite people! I was visiting with a mutually close friend recently while reminiscing about Les and he said " whenever you got to spend time with Les, you always felt like you were a better person for it". That is so spot on! Bid your cards high Les, I´m sure the pitch competition is strong in heaven, I look forward to another game with you someday!
