Max Hubbard Obituary

Hubbard, Max E., age 76, passed away, March 6, 2008 following a lengthy illness with pulmonary fibrosis. Memorial service 10 a.m. Saturday April 19, 2008, at Grace Presbyterian Church. Max graduated from high school in Little River, KS and then attended Hutchinson Community College. He joined the Naval Reserve in 1951 and became active in January 1952, serving aboard ship until October 1954, when he was discharged. At that time he moved to Wichita to finish college and graduated from Wichita University in 1957 with a degree in business. Following graduation he worked for White Star Machinery for six years and then opened his own company, Kansas Oklahoma Machine Tool, Inc. that he owned for 25 years. Shortly after selling KOMT, he and a partner purchased Milling Precision Tool, Inc., which he sold in 1995. Since retirement, Max has been actively involved in machinery and machine shop appraisals. He was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church and of the Steamer Mariner Club and Class since 1956. He served as an elder for three terms and was both a deacon and a trustee at the church. Professionally, he was active in American Machine Tool Distributors Association and served as the National Chairman in 1986-87. He also maintained memberships in The Society of Manufacturing Engineers, and served as their president in the mid 60's; and he was a member of the Wichita Manufacturing Club, as well as Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity. He was active at Wichita State University and was a lifetime member of the Alumni Association, which he served as both Interim Director and as President of the Association in 1998-99. He was active in the athletic programs including serving on the board for SASO and he was on the Board of Directors for the WSU Hall of Fame. He was a huge Shocker fan of all the sports. He and his wife received three special WSU honors from the Alumni Association and the College of Fine Arts. Max is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lois (Burris) whom he married in Hutchinson in 1953. He is also survived by his two daughters, Valorie Hubbard and her husband Gill Boyd of West Hollywood, CA; Amelia Younts and her husband Greg of Prairie Village; brothers, Robert (and Marcy) of Hutchison and Richard (and Barbara) of Little River and a sister-in-law, Dixie Hubbard of Wichita, plus several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Nora Hubbard and a brother, Bill Hubbard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church, Steamer Mariner Class, 5002 E. Worked with Max during my college years at Midwest Aircraft which shared the same facility on S. Mead. Max was always a gracious and giving person and was always there to provide me advice and counsel during my college years. My condolences to Lois and daughters.
