Michael McGill Obituary

McGill, Michael Patrick Michael passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at the age of 65. The only son of Joseph and Mary Louise, Michael grew up with four younger sisters, Therese, Joan, Erin and Mary. He had a unique, special relationship with each, but was a protective big brother to them all. He always kept them laughing and on their toes. Michael graduated from Wichita State University, where he met Connie, his loving wife of 33 years. Michael was a devoted husband and proud father to their only son, Kevin. He loved family game nights (where he and Kevin waged many fierce battles), Boy Scout camping trips, and competing in bridge tournaments (he was one of the best bridge players in the country). Michael was a creative thinker and tinkerer with numerous patents to his credit. No one was faster at mental math. He was a mischievous, practical jokester. He loved talking to strangers. He was extremely generous to others in need. He rarely complained about anything, even on the worst of days. After Connie died, he met Tatyana, and they were married for six happy years. In addition to his wife, son, sisters and a huge extended family, Michael is survived by his five-year-old grandson, Joshua, and his two-year old granddaughter, Kaitlyn. He adored them both. Josh inherited Michael's build (it skipped a generation), remarkable focus and generosity. Kate has his mischievous spirit. Memorial services will be held in Kansas City, MO and Wichita, KS. Details will be posted at www.mcgilleystatelinechapel.com. In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully requests donations to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements: McGilley State Line Chapel, 816-942-6180.

So very sorry for the loss of your brother, Mary and Therese. He sounds like a wonderful person with all the traits I have seen in you two too. May you find comfort in each other. The gift of big families.

My condolences to the family. I attended Kapaun High School and Wichita State with Michael. Worked with Michael at the Joe McGill Co. during our college years. I was always amazed at the curiosity Michael displayed at how things worked and how to improve them. Lost touch as many of us do when life gets complicated. God bless him and all you at this time

My condolences to the family of Michael. Met Michael at Wichita State and enjoyed college years with him. Had the privilege of being a roommate with him for a term. His sense of humor, sharp wit and intelligence were benchmarks of his personality. He was also willing to take on great challenges as he went out as a walk-on for the WSU football team one spring.Thoughts and prayers with the family and know that Mike is enjoying the peace with his heavenly father.

Our sympathies to Tatiana and the rest of Michaels' family. He was a gentle giant of a man who was intelligent, funny and plain spoken. We enjoyed our time together, especially exploring Russia. Hoyt relied on his common sense approach to environmental issues and water projects. We will miss him.

Our sympathy for Tatiana and the rest of Michael's family at his passing. Mike was a gentle giant of a man who was intelligent, funny and very direct. We enjoyed traveling to Russia with him. Hoyt always counted on his practical advice when it came to water issues and the environment. We will miss him.

My deepest sympathy McGill sisters on the list of your brother Michael. I remember you all from many years ago when Joe & Lou and my folks, John & Marguerite Knolla, went to the Creighton Club meetings. Then years later a new teacher came to St. Jude school in Wichita to teach & low & behold, it was Joanie Henning, the curly headed little girl I knew from years before. We taught several years together at St. Jude & then at St. Francis of Assisi. She kept me updated on all of you & we developed a strong relationship as teachers & friends!! I want to express my deep feelings on your loss of Michael and to let you know you are all in my prayers as Michael joins Joe & Lou in his heavenly home. God Bless you all
