An example of Pat´s poetry.
...wearing beandip lipstick
and fishhook earrings.
She think she would make
a great anglers fold out,
and must have been kidding
when she told us she still
considers a career in a convent

Pat´s creative descriptions create vivid pictures in my mind....
Sweat stains on a Stetson.
on the white sands
of your imagination.
As the snow melted
like vigil candles
and the wind leaned in
from the south.

Pieces of Pat´s poetry
Elms and oaks were knocked
to the ground and rain
pounded the geraniums senseless

Pat was a real talent with a gift for language, a keen eye and a giant heart and soul.
I hope he didn´t feel his talent was ignored though I myself am guilty of only now appreciating it. I´m sorry for his loss.

Pat´s poetry speaks of the wind in many stanzas. I will always think of him when the wind blows.

Pat´s poetry is inspiring to young writers. His word choice is dynamic.
"`Unable to speak, darkness
was stretching out
like the black wings
of a crow when figures
in paintings stepped from
their steel and wooden frames
and began speaking in languages
I had never heard.
Fiery pin wheels rolled off the
ceiling and out an open window.
A creature with miserable teeth
jumped from the book shelf,
vanished in mid air
as I threw my hands over my eyes and hoped for the best.

Pat had a creative imagination who heard the "wind in cornstalks clicking like drumsticks peppering the rim of a snare."

I will always enjoy reading the poems that Pat wrote. In one of his poems, he wrote...
"... and if you listen closely
you can hear him
coming down the wind´s path
calling out your name.
you can hear him singing,
calling you back,
guiding you home."
RIP Pat, Happy Trails

I loved Pat´s poetry. From his book, Wreck On The Prairie, he wrote this.... " I told my mother that when the time came,
when the moon poured
a last bucket of light
Into my eyes,
to dress me in rough cotton,
lay me in a pine box
and bury me
in the Flint Hills
where the wind would
hold my hands
and I could give the Earth
an offering, a small token
of all I had taken.

The last time I saw Pat was when Teresa brought him out to celebrate my birthday many years ago. i did not know he was in the country so it was a great surprise! Darryl Osburn and I spoke about him often.
We always considered him a good and trusted friend.
I tried to phone the family but could not find a number. My best to all of you.
