Peggy O. Foster

Foster, Peggy O. 92, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 27, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, December 30, 2016, at Broadway Mortuary Chapel. Interment will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2016, at Wichita Park Cemetery, Hillside entrance. Peggy was born June 21, 1924 in Houston, TX, the eldest daughter of Clarence and Bess (Thompson) Reed. She graduated from Wichita East High School in 1942, University of Wichita (now WSU) with a Bachelor of Arts in 1946, and University of Colorado Law School, Boulder, in 1949. Peggy was one of three Kansas women among 80 new Kansas attorneys sworn in by the state supreme court after examinations for admission to the bar. Later, she worked in a law office in Roswell, NM, where she met her future husband, Charles A. Foster, Jr. They were married January 11, 1951, and moved to Wichita, KS, where they lived and raised five daughters. From 1965 to 1989, Peggy worked for the law offices of Morris Lang Evans Brock & Kennedy Chartered in Wichita. Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Bess Reed; husband of 57 years, Charles A. Foster, Jr.; infant daughter, Mary Kathleen; brother, John Reed; granddaughter, Annie Mae Price; and sons-in-law, Don Adair and Rusty Andrews. Survivors include her five daughters, Judy Adair of Richardson, TX, Joyce (Jon) Boyd of Ottawa, KS, Jenne Andrews of Manhattan, KS, Dr. Martha (Gary) Riedmiller of Huachuca City, AZ, and Janet (Bill) Slankard of Anthony, KS; five siblings, Dorcas Cochran, Barbara Houlik both of Denver, CO, Maryann Papke, Nancy McBride both of Wichita, KS, and Charles Reed of Rocky Mount, NC; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
