Wichita, Kansas - Ronald L. "Ron" Spurgeon, retired Sedgwick County Courthouse Police Officer, passed away at his residence on Sunday, August 22. He was 61 years of age. Ronald Lee Spurgeon was born November 2, 1959 in Wichita, Kansas the son of R.L. and Donna (Murray) Spurgeon. Surviving family members include his partner Stacey Williamson; children Brandon Blaney, Jason Spurgeon (Jenny), Colette Grier (Tim), and Garrett Spurgeon. Surviving siblings are Larry Spurgeon (Deb), Bev Shafer (Chris), Allen Spurgeon (Dana), and Kenny Spurgeon. Also surviving are his grandchildren Aiden, Addison, Nathan, Olivia, and Benjamin. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 11:00AM at the Sharon Baptist Church, 2221 Oliver in Wichita. A visitation with Ron's family will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, August 27 at Hillside Funeral Home, 2929 W. 13th Street N, Wichita, KS 67203 Memorials may be made in Ron's name to Tunnels to Towers. Ron and I started at juvenile court on the same day 13 yrs ago. He was a true, loyal friend who had a story for everything and a wealth of information lol. Such a dear friend gone way too soon! He will be dearly missed. RIP brother.

I used to work with Ron at the Sedgwick County Courthouse. He was the kindest, meeting me with a smile and a conversation. My condolences to his family and loved ones.

Early on we knew Ron as an adventurer who was always on the lookout for good deeds to be done. Whether piloting his raft on the creek, working for the Butler Sheriff's Office or the Sedgwick Courthouse, he was always an immensely popular presence whose disarming smile and stature kept many difficult situations from getting out of hand. He was especially well - suited to his
appearance in the "Home on the Range" movie: displaying a timeless sense of intense focus and genuine interest.
