Our dear beloved faithful, husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Silvestre "Beto" Ballesteros, age 86, of Las Cruces passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at La Posada – Mesilla Valley Hospice. He was born August 22, 1930 in Corpus Christi, TX to Cenon and Marina Hernandez Ballesteros. "Beto", as he was fondly known to family and friends was honorably discharged from the US Army National Guard.
Beto was a devoted volunteer of the DAV, where he would drive for seventeen hours a day transporting veterans to their appointments. He also volunteered his time to the Las Cruces Police Department transporting their vehicles to get washed and cleaned. Beto was a proud grandpa and enjoyed watching his grandkids play sports; was a #1 Dallas Cowboys Fan and loved to feed the birds in his backyard.
Those left to mourn his passing include his loving wife of sixty-six years, Esther Talamantes Ballesteros of the family home; two sons, Robert and Frank Ballesteros both of Las Cruces; four daughters, Marina Melendez (Pat) of Las Vegas, NM, Rose Delgado of Albuquerque, Patricia Ballesteros (Chris Garcia), and Deborah Gomez (Mario) all also of Las Cruces. Oher survivors include ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and his beloved dog "Mickey". Beto was preceded in death by his parents and his twin brother, Manuel Ballesteros.
At his request cremation has taken place and a Memorial Mass will be held Monday, July 24, 2017 at St. Genevieve Catholic Church, 100 S. Espina Street. Inurnment of Cremains will follow in the St. Genevieve Columbarium with Reverend Rogelio Martinez officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the New Mexico Army National Guard Honor Guard and the Marine Corps League-El Perro Diablo Detachment.

A Soul lovingly floats from loved ones as it joyfully flies to loved ones.
Love transcends and never dies. Beto will watch and care for loved ones left behind, always.

Beto's advice to me as I was growing up in Las Cruces helped me stay on course and endure through obstacles of the era in my endeavor to become a high school teacher.

Yes, there were times when I would have given up but for his words which rang loudly in my mind, like a friend reaching out a helping hand. Words, advice, made all the more meaningful because I knew he had earned the right by his own experiences through his life: work hard and do your best; always do what is right; respect country, family, and friends; and always stand on your own two feet.

So, my Compa Beto, thank you for your conduct in life which set the bar high for the rest of us and in no small way helped me achieve my goal: a Master's Degree and forty years as a successful high school teacher.

I will miss you, miss your laugh, miss your smile, but will forever remember your undaunted spirit with which you faced life, your boundless love you shared with your family, and most of all your words of wisdom.
