Stephen Jordan Obituary

Stephen Mark Jordan, Sr.
April 12, 1949 - August 2, 2021
Wichita, Kansas - Stephen Mark Jordan, Sr., 72, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 2, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. A life-long Wichitan, he was born to Earnest Allyn Jordan, Sr., and Doris Irene (Holman) Jordan on April 12, 1949. He was raised on a ten acre farm on Maple Street in a nurturing, loving and caring family devoted to each other. Growing up on the family farm, Stephen developed a love of gardening which continued throughout his life. He attended scouting, loved camping and was an avid athlete. Stephen studied Fire Science at Wichita State University after graduating from high school and proudly served as a Wichita firefighter/first-responder from 1968-1979. He would eventually become an entrepreneur - innovating and owning Jordan Company, Inc., one of the midwest region's top commercial insulation companies since 1974, longtime member of WABA, Wichita Area Builders Association and ICAA, Insulation Contractors Association of America. He is survived by the love of his life for 19 years, Christine Lebert; son, Stephen Mark Jordan, Jr.; daughter, Heidi (Brian) Richstatter; brothers, Earnest Allyn (Judy) Jordan, Jr., Mike (Pat) Jordan, and David (Kathy) Jordan; sisters, Lynn Bucher, Pamela (Cecil) Parrack, Kathy (Steve) Corrie; grandchildren, Sonnee C. (Micah) Jordan-Fisher, Shelbi Jo Jordan, Stephen M. Jordan, III, Thomas Jordan, and Nick Jordan; and great-grandchildren, Kendall Grace Fisher, Kade Alan Fisher, and Karter Stephen Fisher; he is also survived by the mother of his children, Sharlene Mathis; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved friends. Stephen loved his sweetheart, his family, cooking for them, gardening, fishing, and doing it all with music. He loved Shakespeare's quote, "If music be the food of love, play on"! A come-and-go visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 from 5-7pm at Resthaven Mortuary. A graveside service will be held at 10 am, Thursday, Aug 19, 2021 at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Garden Of Christ With The Children for family and close friends. The family respectfully asks that all attendees wear a mask and social distance. The family has requested these services to be livestreamed from Resthaven Mortuary & Resthaven Gardens of Memory Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/ResthavenMortuary/ - please note seating will be limited. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate in Stephen's memory to the Peabody Historical Society, Morgan House, Attn: Carmen South, 11824 NE 60th, Peabody, KS 66866.

SJ was like a brother to me. I loved talking about nature, gardens, flowers and his vegetables he grew. Also, we both loved cooking, often exchanging recipes. I often sent him dark chocolates and cookies. And, he would tell me of his travels. He loved motorcycles and especially john rested. He called Chrissy his honey, as they were very much in love. I love you bro. With all my heart, Elaine xoxo

I´ve known Steve since first grade. In fact he was my very first date. We had a banquet in first grade and we had dates. Steve was mine. We both grew up on Maple. Spent many a day playing at his house. He was always so sweet and funny. So glad our first grade gang (Nancy Clausing, Lynn Mobley, Sherry Clawson, Randy Hay, Jimmy Carnahan, Gene Doshier bad me) we all together at our 70th birthday bash in Wichita Oct 2019) The reminiscing and stories flowing. He will be missed. Prayers to his family.

I grew up with Steve. My family lived on Maple and then Ridge Road for almost 60 years. He was always polite, fun and easygoing. His classmates were so glad he would attend our high school (West) reunions. We knew he had cancer; but he was strong, not wanting attention paid to that We will all miss him!
