Greg, I think of you and your son so very often. Though I didn't have the honor of meeting Alex, I know he is an amazing little boy and very blessed to have YOU for his DAD. When I sang at your wedding, Anita gave me a lovely wind chime. I have it in a very special tree out on our land where I have started a memorial garden.
I hear it and see it almost every day and think of Anita. I can almost hear her laugh and have very fond memories of getting tickled with her. I wish you and Alex the absolute best of everything as you build a new life together. Love, Mary Millen (Bergman)

I have such fond memories of Anita at Blue Jacket and Hocker. Her smile lit up the room, or let you know she was up to something. I cherish all my memories of her and the great time we had growing up. My deepest sympathy to her family.

My son was one of the lucky ones who spent a fantastic year in Mrs. Bergman's classroom. She was an outstanding 6th grade teacher and the entire Highlands community is mourning her loss.
Please know how special she was to my son and to our family. She is one of those teachers who did make a difference (over and over and over again).

Mary, Greg, Alex, and Steve, I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your lovely Anita.
I did not know her personally but when I met her the past few times and at the store I worked at, she was a caring and loving down to earth person. I will always remember her sweet smile and great friendship.
May God be with the whole family while you all are going through this very difficult time.

To the Smith and Bergman Families,
I went to school with Anita stretching back to Hocker. I was stunned to hear the devastating news. My heart pours out to you all. I can't imagine what you all are going through. Even though we haven't kept in touch- we always seemed to run into each other over the years and catch up. She will be missed deeply. May you all have the strength and courage you need in this difficult time.

Greg, I was without words when I heard the news of Anita. I remember her at the old store so many times I went there to shop. I know that kids that have not had a chance to become one of her students will have lost a true teacher. I am sorry for your loss.

Greg, Alex and Family: I have know Anita since Junior High and will always remeber her positive attitude, beautiful smile and the way she always remembered me when encountered. She had an aura about her that made you feel special. I will always remember the stories she told me of the trips her and Greg took to Hawaii. I felt I was living the beauty of the Islands thru her. I will never forget when I found out her and Greg were together and getting married and when Alex was going to arrive. The joy in her eyes melted your soul. I grieve for all of you and Thank you for letting me spend the time with her in ICU. It was a great gift for me and I will never forget it. God Bless all of you. Millie Eitel (Campbell)

At Hocker Grove Junior High, Anita and I became fast friends, and I have many fond memories of our friendship together during our teenage years. Although I hadn't seen her since we left the halls of SMNW, I will always remember her kindness, big smile, and positive personality. She definitely made a positive impact on all those around her, even when she was a 7th grader at Hocker Grover Jr. High. My heart goes out to the Smith family and to her husband and son. My prayers and thoughts are with you during this very difficult time.

We were so very saddened to hear about the loss of Mrs. Bergman. My son Dylan was blessed to have Mrs. Bergman as his 6th grade teacher. She taught with such strength, love, and commitment towards her students. We were very fortunate to have the opportunity know and love Mrs. Bergman. She will live in our hearts and memories forever.

I worked with Anita for the last 3 1/2 years and she definitely made work a lot of FUN. Anita had such a passion for children and teaching in general. She also loved Greg and Alex with all her heart. Anita was an incredible woman and her memory will live in my heart forever! God Bless. I will keep you all in my prayers.

I am thinking of the literally hundreds of lives that Anita (Mrs. Bergman) touched during her decade at Highlands. Her love and her smile have been magnified and multiplied by exponential degree resulting in a whole number so large that only she could patiently explain it to a 6th grader, or a 6th grader's parents. Our family counts ourselves fortunate to be amongst this huge saddened throng.
I know that 2008 was a special year at Highlands. I know that the Tug-of-War title fell that year, but in my mind I am hearing only, "Bergman, Bergman, Bergman!". Our daughter, Sophie, would have loved to return to visit her sixth grade teacher in the coming years. Though this will be impossible for both of them to enjoy, I want you to know that Sophie will see her in the Safe-Seat of Memory, and in the Wildwood of her heart forever.
With the deepest sadness and sympathy,

I was in Anita's 6th grade class in 2002-2003, I can proudly say that she was the best teacher I ever had. She taught me much more than the necessary school subjects, she taught me life lessons. Last year as they began to deconstruct Highlands, they offered a last chance look at the interior, the trouble makers from our grade went back to say hello and thank Mrs. Bergman for putting up with us. She was gone at the time, at the races I believe but I am glad that we were able to leave her a few notes on the board for her to read when she returned the following week. My prayers are with her as well as her family.

Greg and Alex,
Her laugh. Her smile. Her sense of humor. Her dedication and love for her students. Her eyes when she looked at Alex with such love and pride or when she'd tell of Gregs heroic actions. She loved her men! I will miss all of these "gifts" and all of the others that will pop into my mind in the future.
She was authentic, "what you see is what you get".
I was blessed to see her in some of her best elements, teaching and mothering.
She has touched my life as I know she has touched ALL those who have known her.
I will always remember her.
My prayers are with you and your family.

Anita's passion for teaching and ability to recognize every student's potential made her one of the best teachers, if not the best, I have ever known. She made a huge difference in my daughter's life, and that will continue on with her.
Anita's legacy is in the children that she taught, may they all make her proud.
