ANTHONY MANZELLA Obituary

Tony Manzella, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2011, at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, MO. Born April 6, 1937, in Kansas City, MO, to Lucia and Anthony Manzella, Tony attended DeLaSalle Academy and graduated from Northeast High School in 1954. Tony met the love of his life, Theresa (Baccala) Manzella, whom he always referred to as "Precious." They were married April 4, 1956, and together they raised three children, Diana, Anthony and Frank. Tony's family and friends will miss his sharp wit, sense of humor, and "this, that, and the other." Preceded in death by his parents, Lucia and Tony Manzella, and sister, Theresa Dominick. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Theresa Manzella; daughter and son-in- law, Diana and Scott Walz, step- grandson Micah and spouse Lindsay Walz; son and daughter-in-law, Anthony III and Sharon Manzella, step-grandson Brian Rainwater and his son Addison; son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Monica Manzella and grandchildren Franchesca, Lucas, and Tyler; sister, Vickie Lusco; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Genevieve and Joseph Zeffiro, Deva and Charlie Flahive, LaVonne Baccala; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. The visitation will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO 64131, on Friday, May 13, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Saturday, May 14, at 9:30 a.m. Entombment will follow in Mt. Olivet Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kansas City Hospice House and Palliative Care, 12000 Wornall Rd. Kansas City, MO 64145. To Tony's family you have my deepest sympathy for your loss; I worked as an electrician with Tony in the mid-70s and enjoyed his company greatly. He was a great guy and I have many fond memories of him. He will be sorely missed.

Here is a poem my brother Frank wrote for our father at his funeral.

Dad,

Here are some words about your 3 grand kids

each one special to your life and what they did.

Your granddaughter Franchesca so sweet so true

cooking meals with Rachel Ray in your living room.

When Franchesca took over your basement, playing grocery store or school

changing your passwords on the computer or just sitting with you in the pool

The walks around the block or the trips to the bank and store

You will always have your granddaughter’s heart, that little girl you adored.

Then came your grandson Lucas, who loved to cuddle with you

pinching your elbows, giving you hugs, and don’t forget those kisses too.

Now playing baseball like his father, during the summer and fall

He was going to pitch a game for you, then give you the ball.

Going to the Electricians park to swing or Ward Parkway to bowl a game

watching a movie at Red Bridge Theater will never be the same.

Last but not least is TT, your true partner in crime

His laughter and sense of humor made you smile every time.

Calling the house to talk to Tyler, the stories and songs he would sing

you would have to talk for hours, but the joy that it would bring

Watching The Hulk and Spiderman over and over started to wear you down

There wasn’t anything you wouldn't do for your prince who wore the crown

Now my children have these memories of the man that I call dad

They will always smile, should never cry , nor ever be sad

My children are now forever blessed their grandfather loved them you can see

Right now In heaven he is talking proud, about his Franchesca, Lucas and TT

I know you’re up there looking down making sure my children are safe and sound

They will miss you so much, but something you should know, I’m glad they got to know you, to them PoPo

I love you Dad (May 14th, 2011)

Mr. Manzella was a cornerstone of the Bridlespur neighborhood.(Actually an icon) Forty plus years of being a good neighbor who cared for not only his immediate family but his extended community family. It is hard to understand why people are taken from us, but we have to take comfort in knowing that we were a part of such a well-lived life. My prayers are with the family. With love........

Uncle Tony was there for me for most of my life, but especially so in my childhood. In more ways, both he and Aunt Tee Tee were more like an extended set of grandparents to me. Even at one point, I asked him to adopt me and run away with me.

I'll always remember my Uncle Tony and the values and morals he instilled in me for the rest of my life. You will be missed, but never forgotten. My thoughts and prayers go towards my aunt and cousins.

To the Manzella Family:

Very tough loss. His laughter and spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. Can't remember ever being around Tony when he wasn't laughing or carrying on. He was a true "Kansas City Character."

Uncle Tony you will be greatly missed!
You and aunt Teresa were the first to make me feel welcome in this family. Thank you for making me a part of your wonderful family and all the wonderful things you have done for me and my family. You have always been a strong role model. We will always love and miss you.

A Mentor

Life has been very good
often you put us in good mood
l and the others admire your attitude
in rendering services with gratitude
that made hard work become light
accomplishing our job with delight.

Mentor like you who is dedicated
anything you did even so complicated
made us your subordinates love our work
and we enjoyed doing it unplugging the cork
realizing that whatever difficulty we face
in this world we must continue the pace
letting no problems impede us in any case.

That biting sense of humor, along with the fact I walked into his lit cigarette when I was 5 (my fault) will always stand out in my mind. Sometimes when I think of him, I just giggle to myself about some of the things that came out of him mouth. To the core, he was a family guy all the way, a no nonsense man that absolutely loved my dad's sister. My father respected him, and so do my brother and sister.I wish I could have flown back, but my brother and sister will be there to help anyway they are needed. The hurt will pass, but the memories will remain clear, I promise.
