Arthur Hendricks Obituary

Arthur A. Hendricks was born in Keystone, S.D., on July 13, 1930, the youngest of five children. He was married to Beverly Lowe of Silver City, S.D., on October 16, 1947. They were married for 60 years this October. They lived and raised their family of four children in Rapid City until they moved to Liberty, Mo., in the 1960s. Art retired from Associated Car Haulers in the early 1990s, but he is most likely to be remembered by many young men in the Liberty community when he owned his fencing business. While living in Rapid City, Art was instrumental in organizing the Harney Little League in the early 1960s. Art never had an enemy and was admired by everyone who met him. He could build, repair, fix or figure out a solution to about anything. He was only a phone call away from helping anyone. Art was appropriately characterized and will always be remembered as the "Gentle Giant," a large man with the softest heart. He died quietly in his home on Thursday evening, Sept. 6, 2007, after a long courageous battle with Parkinson's. He was surrounded by his family. Art was preceded in death by his parents, John A. and Katherine (Kelsey) Hendricks; brother, James Hendricks (Alaska); sister, Mary Fredrickson (Minnesota); sister, Nellie Hogan (Gallatin, Mo.); and grandson, Jason Hendricks (Rapid City). He is survived by his wife, Beverly; four children, Rockey (Jayce) of Rapid City, Penny Gibbs (Tom) of Liberty, Lori Williams (Randy) of Liberty, and Randy Hendricks-Ron Freeby of Independence, Mo.; a brother, John Hendricks of Liberty; seven grandchildren; eight greatgrandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family extends their sincere appreciation and thanks to Kendallwood Hospice and Barr Private Care for all their assistance and support. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. followed by services at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9, at the Park Lawn Northland Chapel, I-35 and M-291 Highway, Liberty. Interment later in Glenridge Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Parkinson's Foundation or to Kendallwood Hospice. Arrangements: Park Lawn Northland Chapel, (816) 781-8228.

Grandpa,
Last year you watched us put the tree up near your bed. Although you didn't know what we were doing, you still seemed so happy. Most likely because Grandma had baked chocolate chip cookies. You never could turn down anything chocolate.
It was hard for me to put your tree up this year because I could almost imagine you still there. I know you would want me to keep my chin up for Grandma and I am doing my very best although it is difficult. I miss you and love you very much. Please watch over us and help give us the strength we need to get through this first Christmas without you. We love you!!!
