Barnard Marks Obituary

Barnard M. Marks, 98, Media, PA formerly of Kansas City, MO, passed away Friday, October 10, 2003. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 15 at The Louis Memorial Chapel. Burial at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Family suggests contributions to B'nai B'rith, Martin's Run LifeCare, Media, PA, or Mercy Health Hospice, Darby, PA. Dr. Marks was a research chemist for the DuPont Co. for many years before his retirement in 1967. He was a member of B'nai B'rith; Israel Bonds; Temple Beth Shalom and Adas Kodesh Synagogue, both in Wilmington, DE; American Chemical Society; Sigma Xi and the Alumni Associations of both the University of Minnesota and the University of Missouri. Dr. Marks was born in Kansas City, MO, and moved east after graduate school in 1929. He lived in New Jersey and Delaware while working for DuPont. In retirement he moved to Pennsylvania in 1981. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette B. Marks, and siblings, Marie Marks Singer, Besse Marks, Harold Marks, and Ruth Marks Dennis. Dr. Marks is survived by his daughters and son-in-law: Esther Schleifer; Golda and Arnold Kagan; sister: Evelyn Marks; grandchildren: Aaron Schleifer and wife Dana Rubin; Rebecca Schleifer; Joseph Schleifer; Daniel Schleifer and wife Jane Fogg; Michael Kagan and wife Olga; Harris Kagan and wife Tomoko; Stephen Kagan and wife Vidya; 9 great-grandchildren and 11 nieces and nephews.
