BECKY PETREHN Obituary

BECKY PETREHN After a lifetime of piloting hot air balloons and living life passionately on her terms, Becky Petrehn of Louisburg, KS, died December 21, 2017 at the age of 65, following a brief illness. Born in Clinton, IA, on Oct. 11, 1952, Becky was the second of 11 children born to John and Jacelyn Petrehn and one of two sisters and nine brothers. Becky earned her hot air balloon pilot's license in the late 1980s and took pride in the fact that she taught her brothers how to fly. She was an avid collector of antiques and vintage collectables and was known for searching far and wide to find just the right items for family and friends. Becky was fiercely loyal and devoted to those she loved and will be remembered for her talents of crafting and floral design. Becky's generous nature will live on through organ and tissue donation, and will result in helping the lives of many. Becky is survived by mother Jacelyn Petrehn; brothers Steve, Ken, Kevin, Tony, Maury, Phil, Andrew, John and Paul; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father John and sister Cindy. A celebration of life will take place Saturday, Jan. 27 in the Kansas City area, followed by another celebration in October during the 2018 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta in New Mexico. Further information on both events will be forthcoming. In lieu of flowers, which Becky would have of course rearranged, please take time to celebrate the loved ones in your life.

Becky Petrehn........ the words authentic, fiercely loyal, adventurous, funny, happy, great pilot, mischievous, exciting, full of life, always smiling, physically active, and on and on, come to mind when I think of Becky. She was one of a kind and I know her nine brothers and her Mom will miss her immensely, but they will remember one hell of a gal! My prayers to the brothers and Mom.

Dear Petrehn Family:
Although I have not seen Becky for years, I have fond memories of her from my youth. The last time I saw her was in her shop and we had a good catch up visit. I'm sad that both Cindy and Becky are gone, and I know you all miss them so much. May God give you comfort as you navigate life without them. My deepest sympathy to all of you.
