BERNARD OREL Obituary

Mass of Christian Burial for Bernard Orel, 89, a long-time Hereford resident will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Reverend Daniel Dreher, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Umbarger, as Celebrant. Interment will follow in Rest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Parkside Chapel Funeral Home. A Prayer Vigil will be held Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. at Parkside Chapel Funeral Home. Mr. Orel passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014 in Amarillo. Bernard Anthony Orel was born January 19, 1925 in Kansas City, Kansas to Anthony and Matilda Bendey Orel. Mr. Orel graduated from Ward High School in Kansas City, Kansas and attended Rockhurst College in Kansas City, Missouri and The University of Georgia in Atlanta, Georgia. He met and then married Bernice Toplikar in Kansas City, Kansas on May 17, 1947. Bernard was a World War II Veteran of the United States Army. He worked for Swift Meat Packing Company for 40 years. After retiring he was a realtor in Clovis, New Mexico and then worked for Gooch Packing in Abilene, Texas. Left to morn his passing are his wife of over 66 years, Bernice of Hereford; 4 daughters, Ann Woodin and husband Hugh of Washington, DC., Carolyn Wilson and husband Wayne of Longview, TX., Trish Brown and husband Sammy of Bootleg, TX., Terry Vildibill and husband Bob of San Diego, CA.; 2 sons, Tony Orel and wife Debbie of Edmond, OK., Paul Orel of Mesa, AZ.; 1 brother, Joe Orel of Kansas, KS.; 15 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren. Mr. Orel was preceded in death by his parents; 1 grandson, Justin Brown; and 2 sisters. The family suggests memorials in Mr. Orel's name be made to St. Anthony's School Endowment Fund, 114 Sunset Drive, Hereford, TX 79045.
