Castle Rock, Colorado - Betty Guernsey, 96, of Castle Rock, CO. passed away February 26, 2021. She was born June 9, 1924, the daughter of Floyd and Mildred Hamm in Quincy, IL. A celebration of life will be held on July 31, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home. 10507 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO.
Betty retired from the Kansas City, Mo. School District where she was a special education teacher. Betty was preceded in death by her husband John, her parents and her sister Wanda. Betty is survived by her daughter, Judy and son, John and their sons and daughters and great grandchildren. Betty and her husband were avid golfers and members of Tomahawk Hills and Lake Quivira Country Clubs. Betty was a member of the P.E.O. Organization in Overland Park, KS, Chapter GM and in Castle Rock, CO, Chapter IC.
Betty's parents were very involved in the music activities in Quincy, IL. Betty went to the University of Illinois graduating with a degree in Music. Betty's parents were very active in hosting the big dance bands of that era and at one time Betty was asked by Lawrence Welk to join his big band tour.
While living in Griggsville, IL, Betty and John raised their two children and were active on the school board and started the scouting program in Griggsville. Betty was the Den Mother and John was the Scoutmaster.

I am so sorry not to be able to see you and come to Betty's celebration. Betty was a very good friend through PEO and our golfing "adventures" through the years. I have missed her since her move and will always cherish our friendship.
