Brett Knapp Obituary

Brett Knapp
September 18, 1978 - October 16, 2022
Prairie Village, Kansas - Brett Knapp, 44, passed away after a brief illness on October 16, 2022. Brett was born in Raytown, Missouri on September 18, 1978, to James R. and Judy Ann Long Knapp. He graduated from Raytown South High School in 1997, lettering in band and debate.
Brett attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree. There, he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, and most importantly, met his wife of 16 years, Ashley Nicole Kilbride Knapp. He also earned Masters of Business Administration and Hospital Administration from the University of Missouri, Columbia. Brett worked at Saint Luke's Hospital in cardiology research, and most recently was employed at the Research Institute in Children's Mercy Hospital.
Brett was known for his love of music, dogs, and Boy Scouts. He was an Eagle Scout and an Honorary Runner in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say at H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation. Brett was easy-going, calm in temperament, and inquisitive, always seeking to learn more. When he wasn't going to concerts, you could find him spending time with his wife and two boys, barbecuing, fishing, watching KC sports, and recently, being the Cubmaster for Troop 329.
Brett is remembered as a loving husband, caring father, and good friend. He is survived by his wife, sons, Brody and Owen, his parents, brother, Ryan Knapp and sister-in-law-law, Rene McNall Knapp, nephews, uncles, aunts, and cousins, and his many friends.
There will be a Celebration of Life at Country Club Christian Church on November 5th, 11am. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Children's Mercy Hospital or the American Diabetes Association.

Hard to believe. Our debate family at RSHS was just that, a family. Little Rush, you will be missed. Incredibly sorry and will be thinking of us family.

Brett was such a fun guy! We worked together at McCoy's in Westport and always had fun amidst the hustle. We would quote the movie "Airplane" together and could turn anything into "a hat, a brooch, or a pterodactyl!" Some people enter your life briefly, but make a lasting impression. I will always have fond memories of Brett. My heart goes out to his entire family, especially Ashley and the boys.
