BRIAN HOBSON Obituary

Dec. 19, 1940 - Aug. 3, 2010 Brian Hobson died in the morning hours of August 3, 2010, in his home, surrounded by immediate family. Born in Kansas City, Mo., Brian attended NKC High School and then graduated from UMKC with a degree in economics. He was employed by Hallmark Cards for almost 36 years in various positions and retired as an IT business analyst. Brian served in many business and community organizations in various capacities: Association of Systems Management, Gladstone Planning Commission, Board of Directors of Hamilton Heights Country Club and the Lake Association Board. Brian had a remarkable life, enjoying everything to the fullest, sharing his laughter and love of life with everyone around him. He loved telling stories and his humor, wit and affection will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Brian had a passion for the outdoors, enjoying hunting, fishing and birding, with a deep appreciation of nature. His little bit of heaven was being at his lake cabin. He spent the last 10 years valiantly battling cancer with grace and courage. He had a tremendous spirit and unending will to live. Brian was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Patricia Hobson, children, Trisha Hobson (Michele Bateson) of St. Louis, Jennifer (David) Vrablic of Overland Park, two grandchildren, his stepmother, Freda Hobson, many relatives, and many, many friends. Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, at Muehlebach Funeral Home, 6800 Troost Ave., KCMO, with a memorial service following at 2 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice or Kansas City Hospice. Brian was a true mentor at Hallmark. We all looked to him for answers. He made us laugh all the time and he was so witty! An avid hunter, we had to hear of his turkey hunting exploits. I will remember him dearly. His family was so fortunate to be blessed by Brian. He talked of his family all the time. He was very proud.

I worked with Brian (or Brain as I affectionately called him) for 17 years. He was a rock of stability and wisdom. I am sorry he didn't have more time to enjoy his passions of the outdoors. He was a wonderful human being. My condolences and sympathies to his family and many friends. Goodbye, YFMS

Oh how sad to hear about Brian. Worked with him many years at Hallmark and he always had a smile on his face. He's at peace now and no more sickness. He fought a courageous battle. My sympathy to his family and only time will heal the pain.

Though we lived many miles apart and visits were rare, our family cherished Uncle Brian's wit, sense of humor, intellegence and love for his family. There was a period of time when our emails back and forth were the highlight of my week. Uncle, you are well loved and your loss is sincerely felt all these miles away.
Your niece,
Dawn Benard

Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing.
And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb.
And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.
With our deepest sympathy in your time of sorrow.
