Carolyn Jo Smith
December 18, 1925 - December 16, 2020
Shawnee, Kansas - Carolyn Jo Douglas Smith (94), Shawnee, KS, died December 16 at Sharon Lane Heath Center after a brief battle with COVID. Carolyn was married to her college sweetheart, Harold Smith, for 57 years. He proceeded her in death in 2012. Carolyn was a devoted housewife and mother.
Carolyn attended North Kansas City High School and graduated from Park College in 1947. Carolyn was active in the Parkville Presbyterian Church. She was a member of several Bible Study circles, Presbyterian Women, an organization devoted to social issues and was a member, with her husband, of the Presbyterian Mariners, an adult service and fellowship organization. Carolyn was also a member of the American Association of University Women.
Carolyn was stricken with a muscular disease for over half her life. She battled every step of the way, never one to complain.
Survivors include, sons Douglas L. Smith (and fiancée, Michelle Jenkins, Salt Lake City, UT), Gregory L. Smith (and wife, Mary, Parkville, MO) and Alan W. Smith (and wife, Kesty, Boulder, CO), 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held next spring. Contributions in her honor can be made to the Parkville Presbyterian Church, the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection or Sharon Lane Health and Rehabilitation (Shawnee, KS).
