CHARLES NAYLOR Obituary

Feb. 5, 1931 - Oct. 31, 2016 Charles Robert Naylor, Kansas City, Mo., passed away peacefully October 31, 2016, with his children and loved ones at his side. He was 85 years old. "Chuck" was born in Prairie Hill, Mo., near Salisbury, on Feb. 5, 1931, to his parents Virgil Dunn and Ida Delora Naylor. In 1937, the Naylors moved to Kansas City where Chuck was raised in a loving home in the Historic Northeast area of town. He attended Scarritt Elementary School and was a 1948 graduate of Northeast High School. In his youth, Chuck enjoyed sports, scouting, church activities at Independence Boulevard Christian Church, and working at A&P grocers. After graduating from Kansas City Junior College, Chuck attended Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg. He served in the Missouri National Guard, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. He married his high-school sweetheart, Peggy Milner, in 1951. Chuck and Peggy were married for 17 years and had three children, Pamela Lynn, Michelle Ann, and Charles Laurence Naylor, all currently residing in the Kansas City area. Chuck's professional career in the food brokerage business spanned 59 years. He began his sales career with Guys Potato Chip Co. and then joined Stoops & Wilson Co. living in both Kansas City and Lawrence, Kan. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to opening C.R. Naylor Sales, Inc. which he operated for 20 years. He later joined Rheuark & Co. where he remained until retirement in 2009 at age 78. He was an active member of the Missouri Restaurant Association and often described himself as "the potato man" serving wholesalers and retailers across the Midwest. In the late 1990's, Chuck was introduced to his "best friend" Mary Smith of Independence, Mo. Chuck and Mary lived life to the fullest, enjoying dining, theatre, traveling, and certainly Sports! They were active members of First Presbyterian Church in Independence and also served on the Northeast High School Alumni board. To know Chuck was to love him. He always said he was "the luckiest man in the world" and lived life accordingly. Chuck is survived by his loving family, Pamela Johnson (Charlie); Michelle Jones (Rod); Chuck Naylor (Anna) and eight grandchildren and two great- grandchildren all of Kansas City; his sister, Donna Naylor Brooks (Larry) of Centennial, Colo.; two step-children, Michelle Deck (Darin) and Kurt Jackson; his best-friend, Mary E. Smith; her children, Marchele Courtney (Wayne); Eric Lynn (Melba); and all his extended family to whom he was a wonderful grandfather and great-grandfather. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. with memorial service at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at First Presbyterian Church, Independence. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Kansas City Hospice House or Parkinson's Research - The Michael J. Fox Foundation. N

I was lucky to meet and work with Chuck for just a few years at Rheuark, and what a sweet man he was. May he rest in peace.

I have known Chuck since I was a kid and had the privilege of working with him over the years and laughing with him. He will be missed by me and his co-workers. He was a kind and caring person.
