Dana Bleakley
March 25, 1952 - August 7, 2021
Prairie Village, Kansas - Dana Bleakley, age 69, of Prairie Village, Kansas passed away peacefully August 7, 2021, at St. Luke's Hospice House. The first of three children, Dana was born to Jeanne and Charles Bleakley at St. Luke's Hospital on March 25, 1952.
She attended The Barstow School graduating in the class of 1970. During her school years, she enjoyed all the Barstow athletic programs but especially enjoyed playing on the Field Hockey Team coached by Barbara Jones and riding horses with her father. Dana was well known for the brightly painted and decoupaged mail van she drove, and numerous teammates remember packing inside and hoping her vehicle would make it up the hill on State Line.
After graduation from Barstow, she attended University of Denver where she participated in various Club Teams and served as President of her sorority, Gamma Phi Beta.
Like her mother, Dana too was an artist and earned a degree in Art from University of Denver in 1974. Dana used this degree throughout her lifetime designing beautiful food presentations, signage, and gift baskets. She worked for Pryde's Old Westport, Le Chantecler Tea Room, Crown Center Food Market, and Meiners Specialty Grocer on the Plaza along with catering many functions.
In her free time, Dana enjoyed playing golf with her nine-hole ladies' group and always felt an appreciation for the outdoors and the beauty of the manicured course.
Dana loved the mountains and her time in Colorado. She also loved animals of all kinds, but especially her many dogs that she adopted through her lifetime. She was a member of KC REGAP and adopted two Greyhounds which she loved, but her favorites were always her cocker spaniels.
Dana was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her two brothers, Todd E. Bleakley (Jan) and David P. Bleakley (Kay); Nephew Matthew D. Bleakley; and three nieces Kristen A. Bleakley (Destin, Florida), Erin K. Bleakley, and Lauren E. Anthony (Taylor).
Dana always sent artistic greeting cards to her family members signed, "Love, Dana and the Pawnee Pups." She left us too soon. Dana will be remembered for her kind spirit, and she will be missed. She and her family are so appreciative of the wonderful care and compassion of the staff at St. Luke's Hospice House.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to The St. Luke's Hospice House 3516 Summit Street Kansas City, Missouri 64111, Church of the Resurrection Pet Ministry 13720 Roe Avenue Leawood, Kansas 66224, or any animal charity.
A celebration of life reception will be held on Sunday, September 12, 2021 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Milburn Golf and Country Club, 7501 West 69th Street, Overland Park, Kansas 66204. A private family graveside service will be held at Mt. Moriah Cemetery.

To Todd, David, and all family members -- you are in my thoughts. Dana and I spent many years together at Barstow on the field playing hockey, in the gym playing basketball and volleyball. She was a wonderful, fun, funny, creative, talented spirit. She has gone too soon, and the world is a poorer place for her absence. I loved your folks as well. Please know that I am thinking of you, and remembering your wonderful sister.

Todd and David, I am so sad to hear about you loosing Dana. She was a special childhood friend. Reading and remembering the mail truck and all the other great childhood memories we shared through swimming, wild rides with your Mom in that old Jaguar, learning to play the guitar and the animal menagerie at 99thBunnies and more Bunnies! And that adorable weenie dog that piddled when she got so excited to see you! We always seemed to move in and out of each other´s lives through the years at events and at the grocery. She was incredibly talented in everything from art to food and her heart was for the animals. They truly lost a guardian angel. I will remember her wonderful smile always.
