Daniel Saviano Obituary

Daniel "Pat" Saviano
March 30, 1947 - June 26, 2022
Kansas City, Missouri - Pat was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Daniel A. Saviano and Earline M. Saviano, the oldest of 9 children. He married Vicki Hapke on September 14, 1968. They had two sons, Samuel David born July 23, 1972, and Marc Andrew born September 30, 1975. Pat attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Grade School in Kansas City. His desire to serve others led him to attend St. Vincent's College Preparatory Seminary in Cape Girardeau Missouri, the first step to becoming a Vincentian Missionary. Although he did not continue this path, his friendships with his classmates remained strong past his graduation in 1965. The values of St. Vincent de Paul would guide him throughout his life.
After High School Pat enrolled in the United States Navy at Olathe Naval Station. He began his college career at Rockhurst University at the same time. His freshman year, Pat met the love of his life Vicki, while singing in a combined Choir with Avila University. They went on to make beautiful music together for over 53 years. Pat was called into active duty during the Vietnam War, serving on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Shangri-La from 1966-1968. He remained on active reserve duty from 1968-1972.
He was honorably discharged in the Summer of 1972. He continued his college career at Rockhurst graduating with a Bachelor of Arts and double major in History and Political Science.
Pat was a beloved employee of C & O Electric Sales for over 30 years. His colleagues in the electrical business knew Pat's word was his bond, and would often ask to speak to Pat specifically about their project needs.
Pat's life of service continued through the Boy Scout Program with his 2 sons. He served in every Adult Leadership position from Cubmaster to Scoutmaster. He served as Commissioner at H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation, and rose to the rank of Sachem in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. Pat also served on many District and Council Training Staffs, Woodbadge and Brownsea staffs, earning the District Award of Merit. Pat was the Chairman of the Catholic Committee on Scouting earning the St. George Award and Bronze Pelican Award. Pat participated in the American Legion as Post Adjutant for Post 598, and was a current member of Post 189. Pat joined the Knights of Columbus in 1993 serving in various committee positions. He was currently a member of St. Elizabeth's Council 14163, becoming a Fourth Degree member of the Knights in April 2018.
A fly-fishing hobbyist, Pat was a member of Project Healing Waters, teaching veterans how to tie flies and fish with them on monthly fishing trips. He also co-founded Frontline Fly Fishing, providing similar opportunities to all "frontline" service people. Pat was a voracious reader, especially of nonfiction and historical fiction war stories. He was known as a walking encyclopedia of all things relating to World History or Political Science. He could identify any plane or ship from the numerous war movies he watched and enjoyed pointing out their inconsistencies with a smirk. For the past 25 years, Pat found great joy in playing Santa Claus, for Boy Scout meetings, Knights of Columbus parties, St. Elizabeth School celebrations and many private parties. His booming "HO HO HO" was like no other.
Pat served the St. Elizabeth's Parish Community as a Choir member, Lector, and Eucharist Minister. He and Vicki were longtime members of Dinner for 8. Pat was a shrewd Bridge partner and opponent in the Cardlarks Group.
Pat was preceded in death by his son Sam Saviano, sister Diane Smith, brother Tom Saviano, and his parents Dan and Earline Saviano. He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years Vicki Saviano and his son Marc Saviano, and his siblings Mary Rice, Joe Saviano, Karen Anderson, Rick Saviano, Doug Saviano, Marty Saviano, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation and Rosary will be held Thursday, July 7th at St. Elizabeth's Church, 75th and Main from 5:30-7:30 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, July 8th at 10:30 AM also at St. Elizabeth's. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Elizabeth's St. Vincent de Paul Fund, Frontline Fly Fishers, or the Veteran's Community Project.

What a beautiful soul! I met Pat through the Knights of Columbus Council 14163 at St.Elizabeth’s Church. He was always very entertaining to say the least! Pat was very intelligent and was willing to share his knowledge with others. I looked up to him as a person, and a council member. Our meetings will not be the same without him. We worked on a few volunteer jobs for the church’s electrical needs. I remember him being very helpful providing parts we needed, and helping install. Vicki, I hold you in my thoughts, that’s a tough loss for sure. May you find Peace in many fond memories of Pat.
