My sincerest condolences to you today, as you mourn and rejoice the birth and departure of your precious Derek. I grew up next door to Jeff Risner. My name was Cheryl Steely at the time, now I'm Cheryl Cooper. My son Christopher was murdered on November 8, 2007, by a drunk driver while riding his bike.
Jeff, if you read this, please know that I am praying for you and your family. I know your pain, and I am so very sorry you lost your sweet son. Our boys were almost the same age.

Ok seriously... I cannot get you off my mind. When I was there I did not get your number. I need that! Kris you have always been so wonderful to me and I just cannot believe that this could happen to such wonderful people. Please call me I would love to come over and just sit with you. You guys can make it through this. You have an awesome husband and I know he has made this a little easier for you. As I said, call me and I will just hang with you. Cry, laugh, talk whatever you want to.

My name is Kelly Lewis and I co-taught Derek's history class last year. He was such a leader in our class. He was very easy going and worked so well with other kids or by himself. He asked such insightful questions. We loved seeing his sweet smile every day. He was a joy to teach.

I am so very sorry to hear the news. What a terrible loss. Derek was such a sweet little boy. I was proud to be his step-mother (many years ago) and proud to know him. He always has, and always will, hold a special place in my heart. It sounds like he turned out to be quite a wonderful young man. You are all in my thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time.

Jacquie and Family,
I was so sad to hear about Derek's passing. I live on the north side of K-10 and Smiley's Golf Course, the accident was very close to my home and I instantly said a silent prayer when I heard the news. Jacquie, incase you don't remeber me I worked for Dr. Lynne. My prayers are for all of Derek's famliy.

Derek was my neighbor,he rode the bus with me pretty much every day after school. There was a lot of things that happend on the bus.. The first thing was he tought me how to filck people in the head, and when he was least excepting it I would catch him off guard and flick him. He would do the exact same thing to me. It was just fun playing around with him. Another thing he would do on the bus was he would just be sitting there and out of no where he would just start crancking up and every one would look at him and wonder what he was laughing about, and he said that he was listing to Lary The Cable Guy on his ipod. I am so thankufl that I got the chance to met Derek.
