Devin Cassidy Obituary

November 5, 1983 Our beloved daughter, big sister and friend was stolen from us on September 20, 2008. Everyone that Devin met was captivated by her beautiful warm smile and bright blue eyes. They were touched by her caring thoughts and her infectious laugh. Devin had a warm bond with her family. She loved her brother, Brendan, and her little sister, Dylan. She was both a gift and a blessing from God to her entire family. She loved and cared for all of her friends and helped others unselfishly. Devin graduated from Blue Valley North High School in 2002. She was a member of the orchestra, an accomplished violinist. Devin played violin several years with the Kansas City Youth Symphony. Devin's love of music started at an early age and flourished with her natural talent. Her passion flowed from her violin that she continued to play for personal enjoyment. Devin attended Kansas University where she studied Biology. She worked for Unilever in Gardner, Kan., as a Microbiologist and had aspirations of seeking an advanced degree. Devin is survived by her parents, Robert and Kendall Cassidy of Leawood, Kan.; her brother, Brendan Patrick and her sister, Dylan Alexandra; her grandparents, James T. Cassidy of Bradenton, Fla., John and Terry Smith of Bucyrus, Kan., and James and Sarah (Sally) Job of Raymore, Mo.; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins plus a large circle of devoted and loving friends. Devin you were always our Angel and now you will look down on us all, protect us when you can and comfort us when we need it. The world is a wonderful place but was brighter with you in it. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, Sept. 25, at 11 a.m. at Church of the Nativity, 3800 West 119th, Leawood. Cremation. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Church of the Nativity from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Devin M. Cassidy Scholarship Fund, Bank of Blue Valley, 11935 Riley Street, Overland Park, KS 66213. Arrangements: McGilley State Line Chapel (816) 942-6180.

I graduated with Devin from BVN in 2002. Although I wasn't close friends with her, she always seemed to have a smile on her face and full of happiness. One thing I have learned from my short time on this earth is that the more you love someone, the harder it is to lose them. devin will be greatly missed and take comfort in the fact that she lifed life to the fullest.

It is with extreme sorrow and regret, that I express my condolences to your family. I am a long lost friend of Devin's. We graduated from BVN together in 2002. In my short but sweet time with Devin, I found her to be one of the most welcoming and kind-hearted people I've ever encountered. And no matter what, she always rocked a smile. I pray for the best for the family and may her spirit bless us unrelentingly and eternally. God bless you, Devin. You will be missed all over the country and for the rest of the lives of those you've touched.

Dear Bob, Kendall & Family,

The untimely and senseless loss of Devin took me back to those first days and weeks after losing my son and Emily Moore's brother Carter. At the Visitation this evening my heart ached for you. There are no words, spoken or written, that can make sense of this. Simply know that I will be keeping you all in my daily prayers over these next weeks and months. My prayer is that your faith, though violently shaken, will ultimately bring comfort and peace to your souls. Never hesitate to call when there is anything that Emily or I can do for you.

Dear Devo,
I miss the hell out of you. My permanent memory that keeps coming to the front of my mind is of you sitting on the porch of the
Maine house surrounded by cups of coffee and puzzle books wrapped in one of Adam's quilts. Smoking cigs and debating nature vs. nurture. I guess we'll have to continue the debate when we meet up again so you best be working on your argument because I certainly will be.
You deserve better.
You will be sorely missed Devo.

You don't know me but my heart broke when I read about Devin.
My heart goes out to you. I know that there are no words to help ease your pain. You see, my son Chris Bartholomew, also lost his life the same way, same place. I know your pain and sorrow. You are not in this alone. As I read all the wonderful things about your daughter, I think of my own son and how much alike they were. I would have loved to have met her, she sounds like an extraordinary woman who touched many lives and was loved so very much! Trust in your faith, it will get you through. I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. We have some pretty amazing Angels watching over us! God Bless your family

"Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal."
-From a headstone in Ireland

Although there are not any words that can be spoken right now to ease the pain in your hearts and the void in your soul . . . there are open arms to fall into all around you. Devin did not just bring life to your world with her smile and her love, she is continuing to pass on life today: she gave the gift of life to so many. Smile for her charm, smile for her laughter, smile for her joy of life and wrap up in the love she is surrounding you with right now.

To The Cassidy Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I am was a member of the BVN orchestra two years ahead and I remember Devin as one of the sweetest members. Devin was a good friend of my little brother and I remember always picking on her in orchestra because my little brother had a little crush on her. Devin was a wonderful musician and was friendly to everyone in class. I am sure that where ever she is, she is making everyone smile like she did here on earth. Again, my deepest condolences. Please take care. -On behalf of my brother as well.

Dear Robert, Kendall, Brendan, and Dylan,
I would like to pass on my sympathies to the entire Cassidy/Smith family. I had the privilege of knowing Devin the last eight years. That obituary was very well written. Devin did indeed have an infectious laugh and smile. She was an extremely thoughtful person not just with her friends but to the world around her often alerting me to issues that were happening across the globe that I would never otherwise have taken the time to notice. Know that you're entire family are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
