Donald Carlton Obituary

Donald A. "Shotgun" Carlton, age 75, a resident of Liberty, MO, passed away at Research Hospital, Kansas City, MO, on Monday, September 30, 2002. He was born December 30, 1926, the son of Fred A. and Bertha Baymiller Carlton, in Chillicothe, MO. On December 24, 1955, in Chillicothe, he married Geri Mourning; she preceded him in death on January 28, 2000. He served in the United States Army Air Corps in World War II. He was a graduate of Chillicothe High School and attended the Chillicothe Business College. He was the founder and leader of The New Red Onion Jazz Babies, a member of the American Legion of Chillicothe, Kansas City Federation of Musicians Local #34-627. He was the owner of Don Carlton Construction Company in Liberty, MO. Survivors include one son, Kevin L. Carlton, and daughter-in-law, Gayle, of Kansas City, MO; one daughter, Kelly L. Steffen, and son-in-law, Bill, of Chillicothe, MO; one brother, Gene Carlton, and sister-in-law, Myrna, of Chillicothe, MO; one sister, Doris Rowe, and brother-inlaw, James, of Smyrna, GA; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Virginia Eastman. A memorial service will be at the Norman-Wagy-Gordon Funeral Home, Chillicothe, on Thursday, October 3, 2002, at 1:30 p.m. A private family inurnment will be at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dream Factory, c/o Norman-Wagy-Gordon Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, MO 64601. He will be greatly missed by family, friends and fans.
