Doris Illig Obituary

Doris Elaine Illig
November 16, 1923 - January 21, 2022
Overland Park, Kansas - Doris Elaine Illig, 98, passed away on Friday, January 21, 2022.
Doris was born on November 16, 1923 to Ethel and Ralph Ludden in Williamston, Michigan.
Doris' faith was very important to her and she was a longtime member of Community of Christ church, Mission Road congregation, in Prairie Village, Kansas.
Doris was a bright, kind, loving, independent, classy lady. She spent decades raising her sons Cliff and Keith to be Eagle Scouts, successful entrepreneurs and businessmen. She delighted in watching them become wonderful fathers and doting, fun-loving grandfathers.
Doris was a very visual, artistic and talented individual with a discerning eye for color and details with a well-developed sense for "what looks good" and "what doesn't". She always wanted things to look right and always found the beauty in almost everything she encountered whether it be a beautiful sunset or a flower in bloom. After her sons left for college she embarked on a three-decade career as a professional interior designer with hundreds of satisfied, loyal clients. Doris will be remembered for being an accomplished artist, an outstanding horticulturist and gardener, a world traveler and an avid reader of many categories. So many of her family and friends delighted in receiving a greeting card painted especially for them by Doris. While she was accomplished in so many things, her biggest frustration was her inability to manage technology, whether it be a TV remote or a cellphone.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents and by her sister Rosemary. She is survived by her son Cliff Illig and wife Bonne of Leawood; son Keith Illig of Overland Park; grandsons Michael Illig and wife Amy, Brian Illig and wife Michelle, Grant Illig and granddaughters Aubrey Schmidt and husband Justin and Lauren Savant all of the Kansas City area; greatgrandchildren Clive Illig, Imogen Illig, Aiden Illig, Arielle Schmidt, Braxton Savant and Brady Savant; and her sisters Kathleen Wheeler of Donna, Texas and Carolyn Jackson of Independence, Missouri. She was loved by many nieces and nephews, close friends and neighbors.
Doris has been cremated and her ashes will be interred at Mount Moriah Cemetery. The family held a private memorial service on January 24, 2022.
The family suggests memorials in Doris' name to the Heart of America Council, Boy Scouts of America, 10210 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131.

Doris used to take me to the car wash after church when I was a young boy. I was fascinated with her AMC Pacer that she drove. She was always kind to me, and was a close friend of my grandmother, Shirley Hermanson. I am saddened to hear of her passing, but she brought so much love and joy to a great deal of people.

Doris was a classy lady. She gave me many starts of daffodils, which I am enjoying this month.
