I´m shocked and devastated to learn about this. I met Dustin in DC playing volleyball and always admired his zest for life, intellect, and smile. I always knew he´d so well in his career and I was not wrong. We exchanged messages recently and I hoped to reconnect with him. I´ll miss him dearly.

Shayla and Steve, I'm so very sorry for your loss. Dusty was a good friend of my daughter Annie Bauers in high school. Sometimes I would come home to find him making mixed tapes on our boom box. Or he might be coloring with Annie's younger sisters. He was a nice boy, with curly hair, sparkly eyes, and warm smile for all of us. What a treasure. My heart aches for you.

I know you're looking down from Heaven laughing about this photo.

You were my mentor, my friend, my teammate, and my coach.

You affected my life in a very positive way and enabled me to stay in the U.K. and Europe by helping me to find a job. You took me under your wing and never asked for anything (other than to moonlight playing for Inter).

This helped me and Evgenia to stay together, so I owe a lot to you, Dustin.

Much love, brother. Rest easy.
