Dwight Runnels Obituary

Dwight "Rocky" Runnels age 85 a longtime resident of Basehor, Kansas passed away on Monday December 10, 2007 at the Good Samaritan Center in Olathe, KS. Funeral Services will be 10:00a.m. Friday December 14, at the Basehor United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Glenwood Cemetery in Basehor. The family will receive friends at a visitation from 6 to 8p.m. Thursday evening also at the church. Memorial Contributions can be made to Basehor United Methodist Church or the RP Foundation Fighting Blindness, Inc. both in care of the funeral home. Dwight was born on June 17, 1922 in Archer, Nebraska to Rev. James and Esther Runnels. He came to Kansas in 1940 and entered in the US Army in 1942 and served in the 104th Infantry Division during WWII. He married Ruth Helen Roberts in 1945 and she preceded him in death December 12, 2005. Dwight was a barber for 60 years and owned Runnels Barber Shop in Basehor, KS. He was a longtime member of the Basehor United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school and was an active member. He was an avid fisherman. Survivors include two sons Kent and wife Gayle Runnels of Leavenworth, KS., Paul and wife Robin Runnels of Basehor, KS., one daughter Nancy and husband Jack King of Olathe, KS., nine grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren. One sister Virginia and husband Floyd Hubbel of Basehor, KS. and one sister-in-law Dorothy Runnels of Lincoln, NE.
