Edith A. Helleson, 85, Olathe, Kan., passed away Thursday, February 9, 2017, at her home. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee. Service will follow at 11 a.m. Burial in Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Overland Park Christian Church, 7600 W. 75th Street, Overland Park, KS 66204. Edith, known as Edie, was born Aug. 18, 1931, to the late Albert and Alma Amundson in Hadley, Minn. She attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. On Feb. 12, 1950, Edie married John Helleson. She worked for 25 years in the financial field and retired in 1990. She was deeply devoted to her family and loved to share her musical talents with others. Edie also enjoyed meeting people and developing friendships. Edie is preceded in death by her husband, John in 2009; and granddaughter, Kelly Jeanne Downes in 1982. She is survived by her son, Michael Helleson and wife Nancy, Minnesota; three daughters, Jeanne Patmore and husband Herb, California; Deborah Prochnow and husband Doug, Kansas; Teresa Downes and husband Ronald, Missouri; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
