Elroy Hines

1930 - 2025

Reverend Elroy Henry Hines, Lee's Summit, MO, died on October 14, 2025, at the age of 95. Elroy was born to Rev. Elston and Margaret Hines in Hamburg, Iowa, on September 12, 1930, the youngest of five siblings, Howard, Betty, Laverne, Robert and Elroy. He graduated from Unionville High School, received an accounting degree from Central Methodist College in Fayette, MO, and a Master of Divinity degree from the Pacific School of Religion in Berkely, CA.

Elroy served as a United Methodist pastor at churches in Shelbina, Norborne, Chillicothe, Princeton, Trenton, and Clinton, MO. Elroy was then asked to serve in leadership roles beyond the local church including District Superintendent, Conference Council Director, and Assistant to the Bishop.

He met the love of his life, Marilyn J. Morse, while in Chillicothe, Missouri. They were married on June 30, 1957, recently celebrating 68 years of marriage. Together, Elroy and Marilyn shared a passion for traveling, farming and gardening, planting over 5000 trees on the family's acreage.

Elroy is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of Lee's Summit; three children, Nancy Hines, Mark Hines and Lisa (Hines) Hindle; 6 grandchildren, Sarah (José) Rincon, Allison Hines, Emily (Rob Puig) Hines, Mark Lee Hindle, Ian Hindle, and Abigail (Taylor Zillner) Hindle; his sisters-in-laws, Suzi Morse and Barbara Hines, as well as many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

We will miss his kindness, love of history and travel, silly sense of humor, grilled burgers, smoked salmon, as well as his passion for NCAA basketball, the Royals, and Chiefs. Most of all, we will miss his love for his family.

Elroy made the choice to donate his body to science in hopes that others can learn more about Alzheimer's disease. Memorial services will be held on November 15, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church in Lee's Summit, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Grace UMC or The World War I Museum in Kansas City.
