Kansas City , Missouri - Erwin William Buss of Kansas City, Missouri passed away peacefully on July 24, 2022 at North Kansas City Hospital just one week short of his 96th birthday.
Funeral Service will be held at 2pm, Saturday, July 30, 2022 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Palmer, Kansas.
Burial will be in the Washington City Cemetery in Washington, Kansas.
Erwin was born August 1, 1926 in Linn, Kansas to George and Lena (Hesterberg) Buss. He attended the Reiter School, a one room schoolhouse and regularly rode his horse to high school. He graduated from Linn Rural High School and served as the class president.
One of his fondest memories was walking behind his father as he plowed the fields on their family farm.
Erwin survived the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl, and WW II. He served his country proudly and was a veteran of the Korean War, stationed in Germany as part of the occupation forces. He drove a tank for the company commander and achieved rank of Sergeant.
He moved to Kansas City after returning from active duty and met and married his wife of 17 years, Dorothy Story, and they had three children.
Erwin worked for Seitz Packing Company for many years as a semi-tractor trailer truck driver. Later, he had a second career as a maintenance mechanic for the municipal water district and continued there until his retirement at the age of 62.
His retirement years were spent pursuing hobbies, attending church, traveling, and spending time with his family. His strong faith in God and country were central to his life.
Erwin worked out at the YMCA three times a week well past his 90th birthday and was well versed in homeopathic medicine.
Preceding him in death was a sister Laverna Uffman; brother, Delbert Buss; and a son, Shawn Buss.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen (Sam) Badalucco , Cindy (Rick) Biermann; four grandchildren and their spouses, Michael (Lindsay) Badalucco , Drew (Debra) Biermann, Lindsay (George) Biermann Davis , Derrick (Shannon) Biermann; and two great grandchildren, Sammy Badalucco and Joey Badalucco; as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family.
