Belle Isle, Florida - Floyd Earl Jones "Herman P. Schwartz", 83, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 28, 2021. Floyd was born on December 4, 1937 in North Kansas City, Missouri to his parents Ira Lee and Bertha Mae (Claxton) Jones and was the tenth of twelve children. After high school he joined the United States Navy in 1955 and was stationed on the USS Intrepid in Norfolk, Virginia. He was an Electrician's Mate Third Class Petty Officer. During his tour he completed one Six Fleet deployment. He was honorably discharged on November 26, 1958. Floyd then attended and graduated from Finley Engineering School in 1961 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He immediately went to work for General Dynamics/Astronautics working at Schilling Air Force Base. In 1962 he was awarded a trophy for his outstanding performance in the activation of Atlas ICBM launch complexes. Later that year Floyd left General Dynamics to join his nephew Doug Jones in the scrap business. In 1964 Jones Iron & Metal, Inc. was established in Harlem, KC, where it still operates today.
During his life he had many hobbies and adventures. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 122 under Scout Master H.Virgil Bower. Floyd was a pilot in the 1960s and logged hundreds of hours of flight. He traveled with his buddies on multiple cruise ships to destinations including Europe, the Mediterranean, Southeast Asia, the Phillippines, and China. Floyd was a Kansas City Missouri police officer in the 1980s. He rode his motorcycle throughout Mexico and the Rocky Mountains from Wyoming to Montana. Floyd also served as the 29th President of the North Kansas City Breakfast Club. He retired from Jones Iron & Metal, Inc. in 2001. He bought an RV and traveled the United States finally settling in Belle Isle, Florida in 2010. He was compassionate, charitable and well known for his humor and his way with the ladies.
Floyd is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Lucille Locascio, Lee Jones, Dorothy Andrea, Leonard Jones, Ira Jones, Jr., Mary Lloyd, Camilla Axtel, and Jerry Jones.
Floyd is survived by his siblings Robert "Bob" Jones, Howard Jones (Carol), Gwen Eppenauer; his daughters Sherry Jones, Gwen Starkey (Troy), Stacey Stewart, and Sheila Jones (Ryan); grandchildren April Shaver, Valerie Mills, Jonathon Stewart, Timothy Ning, Donnie Niehouse, Ember Jones and Tanner Burch, six great grandchildren, dozens of nieces, nephews, cousins, lifelong friends, his Florida family, and his beloved Millie.
Visitation Saturday, May 15 at 10am with Celebration of Life at 11am at McGilley Antioch Funeral Home, burial with military honors immediately following at East Slope Cemetery, Riverside, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Shriners Hospitals for Children, and Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum.
