George Bregel Obituary

George Edward Bregel, 77, died Thursday, March 18, 2004, in south Kansas City. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, March 22, 2004, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes Rd. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Rd. where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Private military burial service will be at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville. The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Christ the King's Building Fund. George was born September 13, 1926, to Edward and Nellie (Tracy) Bregel, and raised in Webster, SD. He was drafted during WWII and served in the U.S. Army. After his discharge, he served as 1st Lieutenant in the Air Force Reserve. He enjoyed going to college at Notre Dame during three undefeated seasons that included two national championships for his favorite football team. He graduated in 1950 with a Degree in Finance and has always been a loyal follower of the Irish. He married Cynthia Jo Elwell, started a family, and ended up in Kansas City, where he was engaged in the medical and dental supply business for 35 years. He's been an active member of Christ the King parish on 85th and Wornall since settling here in 1958. A few of his other enjoyments were watching the Royals, going to Chiefs games, eating Baskin Robbins ice cream, cheering for Ol' Notre Dame, traveling, hunting and fishing. He'll be remembered for his good humor and love of family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, John, Ralph and David, also by his sister, Rita Kaplan and her husband, Quentin. George will be greatly missed by his wife, Cynthia Jo Bregel; his daughters, Jane Anne Bregel and Amy Jo Bregel; his son and daughter-in-law, Thomas George and Kelley E. (Attebery) Bregel; his grandson in the U.S. Navy, Christopher Thomas Bregel; his sister-in-law, Genevieve Bregel; his brother-in-law and his wife, George and Barbara Elwell; six nephews; several great and great-great-nephews and nieces; and many other good friends and relatives.
