James Reed Obituary

James "Jim" Reed

April 8, 1952 - October 1, 2025

Kansas City, Missouri - James B. Reed, 73, passed way October 1, 2025, at NorthCare Hospice House surrounded by his loving daughters. Jim was the son of C.B. and Murle (Millsap) Reed; and survived by his sister Sandi and brother John, his wife Karen and three nephews.

He married Ann (Cady) in 1973, which ended in 1998. They had two daughters Sarali (husband Gustavo, children Santiago and Luisa), and Erin (husband Chris, children Penelope and Tilly). His daughters and their families were the loves of his life, bringing him immeasurable joy and fulfillment.

He was born in Kansas City, KS, and moved with his family to Macon, MO, as a child. The values he learned there served him his entire life. He attended the University of Missouri and graduated from William Jewell College. He later earned his Master of Fine Arts from the University of Arkansas School of Creative Writing/Poetry where he was also an instructor. He continued to write his whole life.

Jim returned to Kansas City to begin his career in the school services industry. After a few years, he started his own photography and yearbook company. Any success the company enjoyed can be traced to Karen Riordan, president of the company, friend, and hardest worker. She made everyone better. The company has been fortunate to retain so many dedicated people with good hearts and disciplined talents. His greatest privilege the opportunity to work with hundreds of exceptional educators who taught him that caring was the single most important trait of a successful life.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Jim Reed was one of the finest individuals I have had the pleasure to know. His dedication and service to others was unmatched. He loved his job and those he did his work for and with. He will be missed by many. Eternal rest grant unto him Oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
