JANET WICKERHAM Obituary

Janet S. Wickerham, formerly of Gettysburg, PA, passed away on Tuesday August 4, 2015 at the Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, PA. At the time of her death, she was a resident of The Village of Laurel Run, Fayetteville, PA. She was born October 17, 1924 in Philadelphia, PA the daughter of the late John Shedden and Florence Shoemaker. She was precdeeded in death by her husband, Dr. G.Donald Wickerham, and her twin sister, Marjorie S. Stanley. Mrs. Wickerham was a 1942 graduate of Lansdowne High School, Lansdowne, PA and a 1946 graduate of Ursinus College, Collegeville, PA. She taught Health & Physical Education in Allentown, PA, Lansdowne, PA, and Pittsburgh, PA; she was the former Women's Varsity Field Hockey coach at Mount St. Mary's College and a former faculty member and Women's Varsity Tennis coach at Gettysburg College. She was elected to the Ursinus College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1987. Mrs. Wickerham was a lifelong member and former vice-president of the American Association of University Women; a lifelong member of the Gettysburg Country Club where she served as president and a three-time ladies' golf club champion; a 25-year volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society; a volunteer teacher for the Adams County Literacy Society; a 16-year member of the Gettysburg Recreation Board where she served as secretary, treasurer and vice-president; and was presented with the 2008 Callie Award-Legacy of a Lifetime by the Adams County United Way. Mrs. Wickerham is survived by her three children: Dr. D. Lawrence Wickerham and his wife, Dr. Mary Louise Kundrat, of Pittsburgh, PA; Barbara E. Wickerham of Winchester, VA; and Andrea S. Wickerham, J.D. and her wife, Janet M. Justus, J.D. of Kansas City, MO; one grandson, Andrew L. Wickerham, of New Orleans, LA. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at The Church of the Abiding Presence (Seminary Chapel) located at 61 Seminary Ridge, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gettysburg United Methodist Church, 30 West High St. Gettysburg, PA 17325 or the Adams County Library System, 140 Baltimore St. Gettysburg, PA 17325. Arrangements by Cremation Society of Pennsylvania, Inc.

Mrs. Wickerham was a great athlete and a fine and witty woman. She and her family had many great times with my family over the years, esp., at the Gettysburg Country Club. Those who remember her will not forget her.
