Jeanne Skinner Obituary

Jeanne W. Skinner, 81, of Independence, Mo., passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2008, at her home. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harry Daniel Skinner; and a sister, Marjorie McCoy. Jeanne held many jobs in her life, but probably enjoyed her years at Gladstone Bowl the most. Herself an avid bowler, she worked organizing youth leagues and working the counter. Many of the kids considered her a second mom. She eventually went to work for the Bayer Corporation, holding many positions in the company, but retired as an accounting clerk. She loved animals and nature, taking care of everything from cats to horses. She was an avid bird watcher who always had a welcoming bird feeder. She remained young at heart, with an endearing spirit that shone through, never giving up on her hopes and dreams, or the hopes and dreams of those she loved. She is survived by her son, Albert E. Skinner and wife Judy of Kingston, Mo.; daughter, Linda VanDell and husband Charles Hull of Kansas City; son, Harry Daniel Skinner, Jr. and wife Beth of Visalia, Calif.; and daughter, Annette Rebel and Husband David of Overland Park, Kan.; and her special 'adopted' daughter, Debra Davis and husband Jerry of Tongonoxie, Kan.; six grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. She also had many great neighbors for whom she cared greatly. Visitation on Monday, Aug. 25, from 12 to 1 p.m. with services at 1 p.m. at White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 N. Antioch, Gladstone, Mo. Internment at Barry Cemetery, 1327 NW Barry Road. Memorial contributions to NorthCare Hospice.

I worked with Jean at Bayer and a friendship developed that lasted throughout the years after we both left Bayer. We saw each other briefly (for lunch) but kept in touch by phone. Jean was a "down home" person who never expected more from anyone than they were - they didn't have to try and be someone they weren't. I will miss Jean and her contribution to my life.
