JOAN GANT Obituary

Joan Gant of Independence, MO, passed way November 29, 2010. She obtained her bachelor and Master Degrees from UMKC. A school teacher, she taught third and fifth grades in the Rock Creek Schools and thirty years as an eigth-grade social studies teacher at Palmer Junior High in independence, Mo. She was an avid Missouri University, Royals and Chiefs fan. For many years she attended every home game of the Royals and the former Kansas City Blades hockey games. In her years as a teacher, she had a positive impact on countless young people's lives. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Survivors are her brother Jack Gant and wife Beverly, Independence, MO; and five nieces and nephews: Terry Olsen, husband Karl and family, Weatherford, TX, John Gant and family, Oak Grove, MO, Marcy Broughton, husband Steve and family, Grain Valley, MO, Larry Gant, wife Kyla and family, Oak Grove, MO, and Tim Grant, wife April and family, Oak Grove, MO. A Family Graveside Service was held December 3, 2010, at Woodlawn Cemetery. Donations can be made through the Independence School District Foundation or www.animalsbestfriends.org in Joan's name. Ms. Gant was a good teacher and a wise person I respected at Palmer gack in 1974. She made a lasting impression; thank God for teachers like her.
