John Bullock Obituary

John Sumner Bullock, 73, of Kansas City, MO, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2004, at St. Luke's Hospital. Funeral service will be on Sunday, January 18, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Moriah Terrace Park Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Moriah Cemetery at 10507 Holmes Road. Visitation will be Saturday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the Bullock family suggest memorial contributions be made to the North Star United Methodist Church, PO Box 888, Liberty, MO 64069. Mr. Bullock was born April 30, 1930 in Nodaway, MO, to Willis Henry and Katie (Hollenbach) Bullock. John graduated from the University of Missouri where he received both his Bachelors and Masters Degrees. John also attended the University of Arizona where he earned his Doctorate in Agronomy. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he served during the Korean Conflict on the Destroyer the U.S.S. James E. Kyes. After the war Mr. Bullock served in the U.S. Naval Reserves for 20 years where he retired as a Lt. Commander. He worked for Farmland Industries as an Agronomist from 1968 until his retirement in 1985. After his retirement, John then went back to work at Worlds of Fun where he worked as a landscaper from 1988 until 1997. John was a member of Toastmasters International, the VFW, the Optimist Club, and the Loyal Order of the Moose and a lifetime member of the NRA. Mr. Bullock was also a member of many professional organizations and societies within the agricultural community. He was an accomplished archer. He was an avid reader. John was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Willis, two sistersin-law, Rovanna Bullock and Dorothy Bullock. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Alice; son and daughter-in-law, Gale and Paula C. Bullock of Columbia, MO; daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca B. and Steven R. Dobbs of Overland Park, KS; daughter, Sarah Barry Bullock of Olathe, KS; son and daughterin-law, John and Laurie Sprague Bullock of Houston, TX; son and daughterin-law, Lewis Henry and Mary Kathryn Bullock of Kansas City, MO; three grandchildren, Timothy Robert Fink, Shelby Elise Bullock and Kathryn Elizabeth Bullock; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Rosella Bullock of Grand Rapids, MI, Aaron Bullock of Mooreland, OK, Richard and Avis Bullock of St. Joseph, MO and Joe and Betty Bullock of Amazonia, MO; and one sister-in-law, Marie Bullock of Cosby, MO.
