John Lundberg Obituary

John David Lundberg, of Kansas City, MO, died on April 23, 2006, at North Kansas City Hospital. Survivors include his wife Rose, of the home; a son, Thom, of Springfield, MO; four stepchildren, Andy Lundberg, Olathe, KS, Cheryl Patton and James Lundberg, Kansas City, and Cathy Pauley, Smithville, MO. John leaves two sisters, Betty Fowler of Houston, TX, and Donna Peden, Kansas City; and numerous nephews and nieces who he considered friends of a lifetime. He also left eight step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. John was born November 21, 1932, and in 1940 suffered the most severe surviving case of polio in the Kansas City area and used a wheelchair thereafter. He attended the R.J. DeLano school in his youth and graduated from the old Kansas City Junior College. He received a Master's degree in English from the University of Kansas City in 1957. He then had a career of 27 years with the Social Security Administration, retiring in 1986. John was bedridden by post-polio syndrome during his later years but maintained an active life of reading, playing chess, using the Internet, and writing poetry. His poems appeared in many publications across the country. These years were also brightened by visits from his many relatives and friends. Cremation. Memorial Contributions may be made to the March of Dimes. (Arr: White Chapel Funeral Home, 816-452-8419)

I went to school with John during our attending the R.J.DeLano school in Kansas City. I enjoyed his friendship there along with all of the other students.
He was a great guy and talking with him about many things meant a lot to me.
God Bless you John!!

My Dear Wonderful Uncle John: There are no words to express how much you will be missed. Throughout the years you have been my friend, my mentor and even like a dad. You were always there for me when I needed anything and you were honest and forthright with your opinions. You helped me become the person I am today and I will always hold your memory dear in my heart. I don't know if I will ever be able to write again without you here to edit it! But maybe you'll guide me from the Heaven's above. I love you, John.

Our dear friend John:

Those of us that attended DeLano school with you will always remember that sweet smile of yours that encouraged each and everyone of us. These sweet memories will always remain in my mind as you became a good friend of mine.

Johnny was always so kind. I always enjoyed talking to him. When I was wondering about taking an early out to care for my mother, I talked to him as I valued his advice. He was a wonderful person and I am glad I had the privilege to know him.
