JOHN MORGAN Obituary
John Dean Morgan, age 94, a retired Air Force Colonel and former Office, Secretary of Defense Senior Executive died on November 16, 2015. Colonel Morgan was born in Ottawa, Kansas; as a young child he moved with his family to Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated from Westport High School in 1938 then attended Kansas City Missouri Junior College, graduating (with honors) in 1940. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Kansas (cum laude) in 1942. At KU, he was a member of the Tau Kappe Epsilon fraternity. Colonel Morgan began his military career in 1942 and served three years during World War II with the 51st Troop Carrier Wing in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. At the end of the war in Europe he was appointed Assistant Chief of Staff for Plans in the Headquarters, European Air Transport Service. This organization provided airline type service connecting cities of Western Europe prior to introduction of regular commercial airlines. During the Korean War he was a member of the 437th Troop Carrier Wing that provided Logistical and Airborne Operational support to Allied Combat Forces in Korea. During the remainder of his Air Force career Colonel Morgan served primarily in financial management positions. In addition, he served one tour of duty as Special Air Force Assistant to the Chief of Staff, Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers in Europe. He retired as Deputy Comptroller, Air Force Logistics Command in 1970. Following retirement from the Air Force, Colonel Morgan joined the Institute for Defense Analyses in Washington, D.C. as research staff member. In 1979, he moved to the Office, Secretary of Defense (OSD) where he was a division director and member of the OSD Senior Executive Service. Colonel Morgan was a graduate of the Columbia University Graduate School of Business and received a PhD degree in Economics at Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. He also attended the Air Force Command and Staff College, the Armed Forces Staff College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. Colonel Morgan's military decorations included three awards of the Legion of Merit. He also received a bronze star while serving in the 437th Troop Carrier Wing. For his civilian service in OSD he received the Department of Defense Distinguished Civilian Service Award and the Presidential Rank of Meritorious Executive in the Senior Executive Service. Survivors of Colonel Morgan include a son, Paul-Andre John Morgan of New York City and a daughter, Jacqueline Desiree Morgan of Falls Church, Virginia; and stepson, Georges Lloyd Weatherly of Tallahassee, Florida. His grandchildren include Danielle Marguerite Wyerman, Isabelle Morgan Wyerman and Nathaniel Scott Wyerman of Falls Church as well as Juliette Dubey Morgan and Margaux Dubey Morgan of New York City. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Suzon Simian Morgan and his stepson, Jacques R. Morgan. Funeral service will be on March 14th at 9 a.m. at Old Post Chapel, Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia. Internment immediately following.
